I went there as a kid when it was Storytown USA in the mid 70s. I was 11 or 12. Years later a friend and I went around 2000 or so when it was The Great Escape, or as we called it, The Great Mistake. Overpriced food and drinks, not allowed to bring in your own although we spotted many ppl with sippy cups. Some rides were either broken down or closed. You'd get on a ride and once you got on, I think it made 3 or 4 revolutions, then they'd get you off. Barely lasted one or 2 minutes, except for the coasters. Even if there was no line. We never went back. Of course the main reason I wanted to go was to ride the Comet - I grew up when it was at Crystal Beach and was thrilled to see at GE. I heard talk of them considering "taming it down"...I hope they didn't do that.

WOW! Bob Carroll thank you so much for sharing this! There aren't flashy magic acts like this anymore. It's a shame, but it was a pleasure to see Ron Urban's act.

Reading a book called God of the woods. It takes place in the Adirondacks. They mentioned Storytown in Lake George. I grew up going to LG and had to search up some Storytown video. Anyone with me? Frontier Town? Gaslight Village? Great times ❤

When you came back to your car in the parking lot, Gaslight Village would have wired a GV bumper “sticker” on to your bumper. Back in the day when car bumpers were not integrated into the body of the car. GV jingle has been seared in my brain since childhood.

For some reason, as a kid , those bumper "stickers" were a huge thrill to me !! I was amazed how they magically appeared on our station wagon 😄

Bob, this was just great! Thanks for the link. I'm curious, in the Perry Como spot, did you somehow perform with yourself, or a brother, friend, cousin? Hard to tell with that black baseball cap pulled down. 'As long as it fits a Camel!' You are wacky, my friend!

No, that was just me performing with myself. Special effects!

Used to watch Uncle Floyd back in the late 70s, early 80s. Then he moved to like NBC but it wasn't as good as the old shows so it didn't last. He never came back on TV with his old format. Did he not wanna do that or was he prevented somehow?

The ice show was always my dad's favorite thing about Gaslight Village. He really wasn't a ride person, so he would watch all the shows at the Opera house while my mom & I went on rides. My dad also liked walking thru the Cavalcade of Cars too. The only things my dad would go with me were the bumper cars and the haunted house. I used to get really scared because there was a spot in the haunted house that had a sofa cushion instead of a regular floor panel and he used to have to go in front of me and then lift me over it.
