Beacuse shape file has UTM Projection and this projection unit is meter. area is always sq..

My idea is to have a NDBI map (overlay for 3 years say 2000 2010 2020) showing built up area expansion and line vector for metro lines... and showing relationship of metro expansion and built up area increment...Is there any other way to show this kind to data like interpolation, kernel density(if yes, how)

It would be nice if you could simply double-click on the line or polygon to get its length/perimeter/area. MapInfo does this and you don't need to create a field in the table, you just double click the object.

Because 1sqkm = 100000 sq meter, that's why.. When data has UTM projection, that time this area will be calculated always sq meter
