Loved your tutorial ❤ Can cyanotype be used on other kind of fabrics?
@CBoggsArt5 ай бұрын
They work best on natural fibers, like cotton, silk, linen. Always wash the fabric without softener before using. I've tried other fabrics, but with mixed results, and I can't say how lightfast the colors are on them.

I really enjoyed your video - thank you. 'Beauty in Brokenness' is a title for one of my recent piano compositions and as I was watching you and listening, I thought - 'and here is another manifestation of my erstwhile title!' I completely love how all pieces turned out - simply stunning.

Can you print a second print on top of the first one?
@CBoggsArt Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. I prefer to let the first image dry completely, then re-apply more solution, arrange the objects, and expose the image to sunlight. This is a great way to modify a less than perfect image or just to get creative with the print. I have re-worked a cyanotype when it is still wet, too. Either way works, so try both and see which you prefer! Hope this helps and have fun!

Where do you find the folders?
@CBoggsArt Жыл бұрын
I used to find them locally at Hobby Lobby, which is where I bought my machine. They no longer carry them, at least not here in Ohio. JoAnn's Fabric and Crafts online has the machine, but I wasn't able to find the embossing folders on their website. I have bought a few on Amazon. Search Amazon for "Vintaj metal embossing folders" and several options should show up. I haven't looked, but other options might be EBay and Etsy. I hope this helps!

It's incredibly generous of you to share your amazing techniques of how these are made! I've been searching for info like this for over a year. Many artists tend to jealously guard their techniques & artistic processes and won't answer questions about how they get the effects they achieve. Thank you so much for your generosity! I'm very grateful for this wonderful knowledge~ I can't wait to get an embossing machine & the decorative dies! ( ( ( (( ❤ )) ) ) )

Very enjoyable thank you and loving your work! Can I ask would I be able to use annealed silver sheet 0.5mm or less do you think?
@CBoggsArt Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don’t feel qualified to answer your question. I’ve never worked with silver, only copper and brass that is specifically sold for the machine I use, and heavy duty aluminum foil. Annealed silver is softened, so it might work. Maybe contact customer service for the Sizzix company and see what they suggest. I did find this chart on the website www.sizzix.com/media/uploads/cms/uk/Compatibility-Charts/Material_Die_and_Machine_Compatabilty.pdf

You are wasting so much water for rinsing this way.
@CBoggsArt2 жыл бұрын
Point taken and appreciated. I've started using a small tub in my sink for rinsing indoors and a larger one for outdoors. This seems to work ok, although I do have to change the water at least once during the rinsing process. Outdoors, at least during warmer months, I can reuse the water in my garden. Indoors, in the cold months, the water will have to go down the drain as I do not keep plants in the house.

What’s the name of the embossing blank?
@CBoggsArt2 жыл бұрын
Embossing folder I used for this demonstration is called "Navajo Textile". It's a Sizzix product under the Vintaj label. I bought it on Amazon several years ago. Just checked and Amazon no longer has it in stock. I was also unable to find it on the Sizzix or Vintaj websites. Amazon does carry a number of other really pretty embossing folders that I have in my collection. Hope you can find something you like!
@RogueStitches3 жыл бұрын
What you created is really pretty, but it sort of defeats the purpose of doing cyanotype. It seems like a waste when you could just stamp onto blue paper. You could, however, stamp with black ink onto a transparency and place the transparency over the medium as you expose it. This would leave the beautifully stamped image white on the cyanotype paper/fabric.
@CBoggsArt3 жыл бұрын
I think it all depends on the end result that one is looking to create. I have embroidered on stamped cyanotype fabric for some of my mixed media art. Your suggestion about stamping with ink on a transparency is another excellent idea for using stamping with the cyanotype process. Thank you for sharing!

May I ask what gauge/thickness the copper you’re using is? Thanks! Love this tutorial.
@CBoggsArt4 жыл бұрын
I just checked to see. Most of the jewelry pieces are 23, 24, or 25 gauge copper and brass that I purchase in ready to use shapes. I have recently been using pewter as well. I use 36 and 40 gauge copper and aluminum sheets to emboss patterns to use in my mixed media paintings. I don't usually use these in jewelry because they are too thin to hold their shape.
