I have a 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe and only starts on neutral with the clutch press in at the moment I let go the clutch dies. So I thought was the kick stand but I bypassed and still dies . And if I put it on gear dies. So I bypassed I believe the clutch safety and I got it to stay running without pressing the clutch but still dies if I put it on gear. So I believe is tge neutral safety switch. Not one has videos about that like only two and totally different bikes

My neutral light stays on all the time and I have this small drip happening so I'm guessing this is my problem.
@twelveofthem3 жыл бұрын
@burningfeet 53 I replaced the neutral switch and o ring and it doesn't leak oil anymore but the neutral light is still always on and now I have a new problem too. My check engine light is on and it flashes 5times then 7 and from what I can gather it's the throttle position sensor but it still runs fine.

Wow, I have the same leak! It looked like it was coming from there, but I disregarded it because I didn't think there would be oil behind there. Figured the leak was coming from the crankcase and moving up into that area when I rode. Was planning on replacing the gasket this week, and found this video by chance when I saw the title. Appreciate it!

So if you've taken off the "gear box casing" and some oil comes out... where does that get topped up? basically... I took the shaft cover off to clean it and took the little triangle "Gear box casing" off to clean also and oil came out and I want to top it up? on my list to do is Oil and filter change, Final drive oil change, sparkplugs, anything else I need to do a services now that I have had the bike a year? thank you in advanced, Ben

@Benny46drift4 жыл бұрын
@@sierabaker7308 No, tried many videos and many FB groups but no one seems to know anything about that little triangle part, My guess (hoping) that it's part of the engine oil which I have changed.

@@Benny46drift Should just be self leveling with the engine oil level.

Hey there Motofriend, Great video! Bought my ‘09 V-Star new and have about 40,000 on it. It’s been trouble free but the neutral safety is acting up so thanks for locating it on your video. Now that I’ve watched this I realize that it has had a very small oil leak also. Thanks for pointing this out to us DIY people! Happy Trails!

this is the only video on the interwebs about this thing.. i have a yamaha v-star 650 which developed this exact very minor but persistent leak since last few weeks.. took it to a shop today and the guy immediately said it was the neutral switch o-ring.. around 40 bucks (o-ring and labor).. not sure if i can change it myself; so will spend the money..
@grogthompson41555 жыл бұрын
Just bought a used one of these and the guy mentioned a gasket leak, said he was quoted 200 from a local shop to fix it. Watching this video has been really helpful, this looks way easier than trying to replace a gasket or shell out the money for a shop to repair it. Going to take those covers off and look at it tonight. Thanks man!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXvVipqJnNqCd7s It is VERY IMPORTANT that you do this greasing job on the Yamaha V Star 650 and 1100 motorcycles. If you do not do this simple greasing job then you will be up for a repair bill of over 1000 dollars. If you can not do this job your self then make sure that the dealer where you get your back tyre changed does it for you. This greasing job only needs to be done each time that you change a rear tyre. It is the easiest job to do on these motorcycles and only requires 20 minutes and a small amount of grease. If it is not done the grease in the splines will dry out and you will be up for a bucket load of cash in repairs.
