Hopefully you washed the salt off of it with fresh water, brushed it, and washed it again, let it dry before painting it? Otherwise there is a salt layer (clearly evident from all of the corrosion / battery effect between the metal types) that won't permit the paint to stick. It will all bubble and start to slide off in the next rain storm or three. Once a bit of water gets behind the paint, there is no stopping it. You know you cleaned the surface enough when you can lick the wall and not taste salt. Seriously. That is how the locals do it. And you can't wash it one day and paint the next, because the salt spray puts the salt right back within hours. Park a car there and see how fast the a clear windshield gets cloudy, covered in salt. You have to wash a small section, and then wash another small section while the first is drying, then go back and paint the first while the second is drying. Then paint the second. Then paint a second coat on the first, then paint a second coat on the second. Repeat with small sections over and over again till done. You shouldn't just wash and paint one large section. If not, Oh well. You will be scraping, peeling, and washing and painting it again. And again. And again. And you can't just throw the stripped paint into the ocean, either,. Right? By the looks of it, if you don't hurry and then stay on top of it, that ocean is going to eat your crates before you can even use them. Every wave, big or small, is a claw grabbing at it 24/7/365. Nature has all the time in the world to win. It will only get worse once there is power there constantly, then it is just a giant anode and cathode linked by salty humidity. And paint won't be able to stop that.

Very nice, beautiful color. It no longer looks like an eyesore. I've followed you from the beginning and you've really come a long way. Someday when you're finished, paint the sides with another nice Caribbean color. Me and my best girl will be there again in August. It will be our forth time. I'm looking forward to meeting you. I'd like to pick your brain and learn some things. Dinner will be on me at The Landing. I do all my diving at Sweet Bottom. Look forward to seeing you soon. Once again, nice job!

How hard is it to get shipping container there

Sometimes, you can buy local, but otherwise, you go to Miami, buy one there, and get it shipped empty (for a discount) to St Croix. We use Paradise Freight.

Sir, You spent a lot of money on the lot and with everything else you've been doing, it doesn't seem worth it in terms of $. Not to mention all your sweat, TIME and hard work equity. By the time you are done doing EVERYTHING you need to finish, you will have spent over 400K (lot with container) plus your hard work. Think what you could've bought for that money almost turn key. I've been following you from the very beginning and your first video. Am I missing something? Please explain your thought process. You're also pulling a lot of time helping others because they're helping you but I understand this. This needs to be done but it's more time and time = $. Ps. I sure hope you're going to spray and paint the container on all sides to make it look nice??? The swing doors look the worst. I would've painted them long time ago although your deck looks really nice! How about a tour sometime on the INSIDE? Nobody has seen that real good yet. What's it look like with some nice lighting?

Time will tell but I have a long term plan and I am not building this only for me but for generations to come. I have 5 kids. I understand and keep following you will see more progress coming this year. PS I am way bellow the 400k you are mentioning

Are you not concerned if hurricanes
@dreamsted3 ай бұрын
Look at my neighbour SpratNet or even Off The Wall, which is built with wood. They have withstood several hurricanes and are still standing. The shipping containers at Off the Wall were not destroyed; I do not expect mine to be either. If we get a 10-foot surge, the island will be in trouble. My ten concrete posts under my container are 6 feet down, and now, with the slab and one more that I will add, I will have 60 tones at the base. Hurricanes are always concerning, but I am trying to minimize risks.

I live in Florida, where traditionally beach access has always been allowed (for pedestrians) up and down the beach, and with periodic access to the sides of properties here and there, as well as public beach parks. As time goes on, however - I noticed particularly at some spots on the gulf coast - there's a trend of property owners (condos & clubs) blocking beachgoers from using the beach in front of their properties. I don't know the legalities of this: How far to the water do they own? Their assertion obviously is that they own the land INTO the water. How this will stand the test of time I don't know.
@dreamsted6 ай бұрын
Exactly - as you said, periodic access to the sides of properties should be a given everywhere, and I intend to do just that. Thanks for following my channel.

Permit we use facebook.com/abrdrafting/ Xavier knows everything inside out, and he is honest and dependable. As for the rest, it follows the standard USVI building code, nothing different because it is a metallic structure.

I hope not, but it will be hit eventually, so I am preparing for the worst. Once I have the cistern connected and an additional slab parallel to the ocean in the front, it should sustain a cat5. The container is welded at multiple places, which should be OK already.
@happydayz53219 ай бұрын
Oh my......no elevation stakes or line. Just dump and go ? Everybody is a cement finisher right ?
@dreamsted9 ай бұрын
Yes - For a slab with nothing on top, why not ;-) I agree with you; if you build a structure, it needs to be a little more professional. But I have no water drainage issue. Thanks for watching and for your feedback.

I’m a little concerned that there doesn’t seem to be any lateral supports. That’s a lot of weight up top. Wouldn’t want to see a domino effect happen.

I can’t believe this was approved to be built on beautiful Cane Bay. I’ve been wondering for years if this was abandoned. It’s so sad that this is ruining the most beautiful beach on the island. Motivation to increase policy change and community involvement in these processes.

Honestly, the world is subject to change and clearly for the years before this beautiful project, cane bay in this area was simply a parking lot so instead of shying away from a developing community down at cane bay you should embrace it.

@@AMGKZbin I was there last week, the cars are still parking there, right next this. This ugly container makes no difference in that, so I don’t understand your point? If you think the locals shouldn’t be parking to visit the beach, how should they be getting there? Sounds ignorant to me. Agree to disagree.
