Nice video. Thinking about doing the Winds next summer. Would do a loop starting at bears ear trail, lizard head trail, down to the cirque, up texas pass then loop around and up Washakie pass, then out. One thing I have noticed about videos of the Winds, I never see much wildlife outside of marmots.

You are right about wildlife being scarce in videos of the winds . We have done 5 trips now. We have seen moose, elk and bighorn sheep mostly. And one wolverine. They don't sit still to get their pictures taken. It has always been tough to capture them on film.

Enjoyed the video (and comparison of Lizard Head with Horse Ridge)! May do a similar loop next fall. Got snowed out last year. How far off trail was that view of S. Fk (viewpoint 2)? Was Valentine's lake heavily used?
@keithlamparter Жыл бұрын
It was not far to viewpoint. Maybe 1/2 mile. Well worth it. Valentine Lake was empty of anyone but us which really surprised me

Both of of you sound sick at the end of the trip. Gotta do BaptisteLake next time

Yep. Urgent care for both of us at the end of this one. Baptiste Lake was on the agenda until we got sick. We plan on going there this August.

Well done. Coming off of East Indian Pass must have been "interesting'. First part looks steep with a lot of scree. Hope to make it to Horse Ridge at least one of these years.
@keithlamparter2 жыл бұрын
Coming down the pass was a bit scary for me at first. Uber steep. But then we kind of figured out how to slide down the scree on our heels. Horse Ridge was a good experience but a hard slog. No water up there and we ran dry. Hope you make it up there

I seriously consider the Winds as an eclipse option, for a while. Life did not cooperate so central Oregon was what we could manage. Wild trip through wild country, thanks for the tour!

Great music for the trip. Real nice video form the East to the Wes. I did the West tp the East. Very few humans can appreciate what WE experienced. God bless you and His Creation.

Thanks again. I started doing this stuff too late in life. Can't wait to go back again 2020. Elkhart Park to Cook Lakes, over Fall Creek Pass To Golden Lakes. Back over the Divide to Middle Fork Lake. On to Bonneville Basin and over Bonneville-Raid Peak Pass to Cirque of the Towers and exiting Big Sandy Trailhead. Another video for sure. If you are interested you can visit my Facebook page Trekking and Backpacking. Search @zentrekker

Real nice music about the trip, I've been over much of that but from that opposite direction . Went thru Indian Pass East and West Indian Pass about 1990 with Bunky and Sonny my dogs. But I did the Gannet thing too. But not up tp the top. What a trip huh? Too high. Altitude sickness. Horse Ridge is an awesome place.

Nice music for the Winds. I've been there 22 times...………. and I am a professional musician. Nice job.

Thanks. I really appreciate the comment. The music kind of makes the video work for me. My son graduated this past year with a degree in film scoring and orchestration. Need to get him to write some things for our next trek into the winds next year and see if it works.

Worthy route. I've gone down Knifepoint glacier alone the exact way you went up and I was gripped. Scary even with traction. The northern glaciers of the Winds are on my list to explore.

Man. I had to go through training in Okinawa in the USMC where we got our faces drenched in OC spray (same thing as bear spray) and then had to compete tasks. I seriously contemplated running into traffic to stop the pain. It is that bad. Props to him for continuing!

Thanks for posting! Just curious, how did you make it from elkhart park back to the trail lakes trailhead? Did you bring two cars?
@keithlamparter6 жыл бұрын
We went in at Trail Lakes and I bartered with a guy in Pinedale that I met over Facebook to pick up the car and move it to the other side of the divide for me. There is also a service in Pinedale that will pick you up and shuttle you to and from the trailheads if you don't want the car to be moved by someone else.

Ergelmeyer, I was planning to take the kids up to this area this week and the folks up there scared me off with reports of too much snow at the passes. Went to the Sierra's instead. If you went, I'd like to hear if the reports were true.
@Ergelmeyer7 жыл бұрын
Mark Henn Yes it's true. There was still snow in shady areas at lower elevations but mostly the trail was just muddy. Past Washakie Creek around 10k feet, the trail was lost in snow and we got pinned down by thunderstorms. We probably could have pushed on, but with consistent bad weather on top of the snow we turned around. The eastern side of the divide supposedly had even more snow but we never got that far to see for ourselves. I think you made the right choice.
