I was never in marching band in High School due to athletic commitments, but learned to drum in middle school and still play in rock bands today. One thing I don't understand is the purpose of these solo's. Is it more about showcasing technique than the actual sound? I could juggle my vic-firths all I want, it wouldn't make my band any better..........
@RyanAsheDrums11 жыл бұрын
Well he doesn't exactly have a band with him in this video. They do these solos because why the hell not try to find out who the best players are each year? They judge on how clean you play(rims, rhythmic accuracy, stroke quality, etc.), technique and (for tenors) how comfortably you move around the drums :)

I know this was years ago but come on man. he composed that whole solo on his own. That just shows you how musical he is. I don't think you understand because you never were in high school band.

This is very musical. I love seeing people who can make a solo so musical, instead of just ramming notes down the audience's throat.

If your coach is a good coach he's supposed to also encourage you to do something other than football but still pay attention to football, if he doesn't do that he's a bad coach and a selfish douche lookin for titles and nothing else.

Don't let your perception of all percussionists be warped because some jerk in your high school drumline was being ignorant...Then again, when you say "piano takes actual skill" you're implying drumming doesn't, therefore, you're just as ignorant...
@AdamVosburghtheperson12 жыл бұрын
Oh jesus, I didn't think actual musicians really thought that any instrument was a matter of just hitting keys or a head or valves or etc

Let's face it, marching band would be nothing without a drumline... But they're all cocky dicks with no right to be cocky. I play saxophone and piano, and I was telling my friend about this song I learned on piano and he was like "DUDE ALL YOU DO IS HIT SOME KEYS" And I was like "dude you're in drumline thats all YOU guys do, piano takes actual skill" TRUE WORDS RIGHT THERE.
@mattm41567 жыл бұрын
Duncan you basically said that drumming and playing piano is similar, but then said that piano takes more skill
