I wonder how many fans know the real story of how Pentatonix became Pentatonix. ~ ~ ~ I recorded this video at the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival back in January 2012, exactly two months after PTX won NBC's Sing-Off. Even back then I was sure that Pentatonix would be the group to bring a cappella to the mainstream. ~ ~ ~ Turns out I was right. But I had no idea that it would happen so fast. Now they not only have multiple Grammys, but they also perform at the Grammys. ~ ~ ~ The reason I was so sure of PTX's success is because - virtually from the moment the original three were introduced to the two who were added to the group shortly before the Sing-Off's first show was taped - those five bonded like a family. ~ ~ ~ Many PTX fans know that Kirstie, Mitch, and Scott were a trio at a Texas high school, where they became a popular KZbin presence. But some may not know that Avi and Kevin were brought into the group by Pentatonix' unseen "6th member", their producer and arranger, Ben Bram. ~ ~ ~ Ben was on the Sing-Off staff when the original trio was chosen as contenders, and it was he who recruited Avi and Kevin. We all know that PTX is a phenomenal singing group. But I'm quite sure that the instant - and lasting - bond between the members (Ben included) is also a major factor in their success.

No he doesn't do it very frequently anymore. There are a few songs that he does it in, for just a few seconds. But you have to really listen to catch it.

Why is the music so loud? Actually, why is it even there? I clicked on the video for the cheetah cubs, not for a Walt Disney music track. The babies are SO CUTE, but the music ruined it. It covered or interfered with most of the sounds.
@dyzmom8 жыл бұрын
My husband edited out as much of the chatter as he could from the 10 of us watching from the jeep, then enhanced the "cheep" sounds, and added the music. It would have sounded terrible if the music had not been there.

Well, Kirstie can sing whistle notes (before everyone starts telling me Mitch can too... He can't. He squeaks, and he's said as much) and Avi can overtone sing. They've got some crazy talent in that group.
@coffeeandtear49459 жыл бұрын
Actually, since recently (I know that doesn't make sense, just roll with it), Mitch is getting closer to whistle notes. We already know that he can sing crazy high, higher than Kirstie, exhibit A: Aha, exhibit B: Love Again. It's 'cause he's a countertenor.
@lukecarr57529 жыл бұрын
Why do you think Kirstie can't sing those notes? She sang higher notes than either of those songs in Rather Be. Also, she sings higher than Mitch. Go search for "iKevin - Whistle Notes". Kirstie can sing WAY higher than Mitch and she does it with true whistle notes. Mitch can't sing whistle notes. He can squeak. I can too by inhaling but I don't call them whistle notes because they aren't notes at all. I can sing Aha and Love Again's highest notes too. I'm not a countertenor so they're a stretch for me but I can hit them. High as I can go is the note in Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy but it has to be a good day.
@coffeeandtear49459 жыл бұрын
Luke Carr no don't take me the wrong way I was saying what I thought and after remembering Rather Be I realized that you're right. I had forgotten about Rather Be. That song was the first song I heard from Pentatonix where Kirstie goes as high if not higher than Mitch. At the moment I can't think of any others. Also, lucky. Every time I try to sing Aha or Love Again or Can't Hold Us my parents and/or sister either a) give me weird looks, or b) ask if I'm okay.
@muzctch9 жыл бұрын
razrv3lc They're called "whistle tones (or "overtones")," not "whistle notes," and just because a person can sing high doesn't mean they can sing whistle tones. I am a music/flute teacher, and I can play whistle tones on my flute, but they start in the low register of the instrument and go up from there. Avi has the proper "instrument" for singing them, and he also knows from practice what they are so he can do them well with his voice. I have watched alot of videos of him doing that and it STILL amazes me!
@shaunaplague9 жыл бұрын
I love Mitch's voice, but he can't sing higher than Kirstie. She can go up to F#5 in chest/mixed, and Mitch has only done a C#5 in chest, MAYBE an E5 in mixed. Kirstie can definitely reach 6 octave notes in head voice and Mitch's highest is G#5. Not to mention Kirstie can reach Bb7 in whistle tones and the highest Mitch has done that was a REAL whistle (not an inhaled squeak) was F6. Mitch has an amazing incredible voice but it's just the truth that a trained high tenor will find it difficult, if not impossible, to hit higher notes in each register than a trained mezzo-soprano.
