Lucky i found you guys. I’m not a sailer …yet. I’m interested in a sailer/trailer for the mediterranean for maybe a week out. I’m curious about the differences between say a 21 ft sailer like the viko vs a 30 footer (which i think is the largest sailer/trailer that a 4x4 car could pull) in terms of sea comfort (less rolling/rocking).
Curious how well the hydrogeneration feature of this motor performed on your test? Do you think this feature something that will increase the acceptance of electric power generation in the sailboat community? We are keen to share your knowledge with our Green Boater Community. Thank you! ~tgb

Not recently. We usually have an EPropulsion Spirit 1.0 hanging off the back of our demo boats. These are fine for demos but I would choose something more meaty for cruising. If you're up against wind and/or tide you don't go very fast. The Navy 3.0 would seem perfectly suited to many trailer sailers.
@jxdigital Жыл бұрын
@@boatsonwheels17 My 22 ft sailboat is around 1300 kg and I am considering if a Spirit 1.0 would be enough for local trips on the lake. I do need go small parts of a channel where I would prefer to reach at least 4 knots speed to keep up with other traffic. The advantage of the Spirit over the 3.0 EVO for me would be easy batteries. I can easily carry two Spirit batteries and can charge them at home. But I think the spirit's power would be on the edge. Currently have a heavy 9.9 four stoke, but rarely go above half throttle.

Maybe you can help me. I'm looking at adding a pair of Epropulsion 3.0 Pod drives to my 33ft Prout. 9,500Ib's That be twin.. 6hp equivalent. But for the life of me I can't find good info on what weight is right for what pod drive... Or in this case Twin Pod Drives. Happy Sailing! Great video quality
@davidmalkowski7850 Жыл бұрын
To be honest, you couldn't really go wrong with overshooting it; that means you have the benefit of increased speed when necessary, or much high low-speed efficiency when you don't. These EPropulsion motors even have a hydrogeneration feature that turns drag from the propellers when not operating (eg wind power) into electrical energy. The higher HP motors produce more electricity when spinning even on a craft that is travelling the same speed.
@boatsonwheels17 Жыл бұрын
Sorry about the slow response. I would probably go for Navy 6.0 pods as they're not a lot more expensive and would get you out of trouble better. When conditions permit you can always run them at low power to save the batteries.

i have an Aristocat 30 which is similar, and i am looking at 2 navy 6 outboards. i have no engines atm... having got rid of the Dolphins. i will make my own 48v lifepo4 battery, much cheaper and larger capacity. it is difficult to move a 7 tonne boat

I'm considering buying an Astus 16.5 for coastal (fair-weather) single-handed day-sailing here in Southern-California. Would you please comment on 1) how applicable your quick Astus 16.1 ama deployment shown here might be to the similar (but slightly different) Astus 16.5 rigging, and 2) the time/effort required to single-hand raise the Astus 16.1 mast. For context, I am a fit 67 year-old sailor. Thank you.
@boatsonwheels172 жыл бұрын
Hello Roland, The ama deployment for the 16.5 is virtually identical to that shown in the video. The mast can be raised singlehanded, using one of the headsail halyards in 10 mins.

Do Viko sell a boat you can sail the world in, obviously not this one.
@loufrost8242 жыл бұрын
They go up to 35ft. You'd need to option it up extensively and it might be cheaper to buy a more expensive boat, if that makes sense. Personally I think Viko are good for sailing around the coast, I wouldn't do crossings in any of them. It's horses for courses mate.

@@ericturner2477 I've done a lap of Australia living out of a camper trailer lol You just adjust to it. This type of boats not for 8 week ocean crossings. It's for hugging the coast and river systems, lots of opportunities to get on the beach for long walks. The headspace issue wouldn't stop me mate. $47,000 AUD compromises have to be made, you can't nitpick at this price point.
