There are two slightly differnt models of RV Awning Travel Lock. They install differently. Which one is installed dependfs on the model of patio awning on which it is being insalled. At 2:00 in the video above, a Model A RV Awning Travel Lock is installed on my Dometic 8500 awning, which is a very common awning. The lock is screwed to the bottom side of the awning's rafter, not the arm. Please visit awninglock.com for further info which might help you.

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I'm afraid I can't be of much help with only the info you povided here. The key is to do whatever it takes to prevent the roller tube from rotating. There are several ways of doing that which you might be able to find with Google's help. An RV Awning Travel Lock is relatively easy to install but does require a few simple tools. An understanding of how mechanical things work helps, too. Invite a friend to give you a hand -RVers are both friendly and helpful!

I was able to replace the malfunctioning igniter in minutes thanks to you. 🙌 I did find one of the three igniter lines disconnected when opening the top. Funny how we’ll live with something damaged and ignite using a Bic lighter, however when we go to sale our camper we repair for new buyer. 😂

Thanks for watching the video, Carl, and for your comment. I must say that this is one of few times it's been suggested that I talk too much! Sure, it is true that I like to "sell locks". But my main motivation is to help other NOT RVers experience an unfurled awning event. When mine unfurled, I didn't even know it could happen! I view this video as an educational video. I want RVers to know that it can happen and that there are solutions. I mention that there are several solutions and also, of course, the RV Awning Travel Lock which I offer. Now to your point of "how to use it". When the RVer retracts the awning, he/she pulls slightly on the D ring (at the bottom of the RV Awning Travel Lock in the picture) and rotates it about 90° in either direction. Usually, the locking pin will immediately fall into the hole in the endcap. This is intended to keep the roller tube from rotating in the event the manufacturer's locking mechanism fails to do its job. When the awning is to be purposely extended, just pull the D ring so that it can be rotated and rotate it 90° in either direction. That unlocks the roller tube and permits the awning to be extended normally. The normal awning wand works well for engaging/disengaging this lock. If you have further questions on use of the RV Awning Travel Lock, feel free to email me at [email protected].

Thank you for this helpful video. As a retired Human Factors Engineer I always cringe when folks give directions, etc. For instance, at 4:03 you said to remove the top part of the stove you "push" it. Push it, means away from you. I think you meant you pull it towards you to remove the cover. I have the same stove and IMHO I think it's a crappy Chinese stove with plastic parts that break too soon. I really wish the RV industry would give us the option of ordering metal parts Made In The USA instead of plastic. I would be more than willing to pay the extra dollars. RVs going down the road are in a constant earthquake and they need stronger parts, especially on our Kalifornia roads. Open message to the RV industry . . . leave the ugly vinyl striping off of the exterior and put that dollar amount into stronger metal parts that will last longer. Nuff said, carry on ~
@KardenW5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, Mr. CA! The confusion might come because one could argue that I left out a step. First, you DO push it back, against a spring(s). That "unengages" the front of the top. This is a necessary step for removal of the top. Then Step 2, which wasn't mentioned but is true and necessary, you lift the front and remove it by pulling it toward you. I suspect I did not include this step because, once the top is pushed back and released, it was obvious (to me, at least) how to remove the top. The real key is pushing it back at the beginning of the process. No one gets more disgusted with incomplete or, worse yet, incorrect instructions than I do. I guess it is in the DNA of all engineers. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. I hope you Subscribe, too, as I only need about 850 more subscribers before I can start posting ads again and making a few bucks on KZbin

I just had the identical problem with our Atwood 3 burner stove. Rear right burner would not ignite. I could see tiny breaks in the wire that leads to the burner and they would arc each time I flipped the peazo dial. I wrapped the wire with some electrical tape. Problem solved. Atwood must have been using cheap wire shielding.
@KardenW5 жыл бұрын
Apparently Atwood didn't spec the wires correctly and certainly didn't test them to see if they could withstand the high voltage required for the spark.. That's too bad, as it isn't like they just started building stoves! Little things like can be very aggravating and give manufacturers a bad name. Thanks for the comment!

What is the preferred method used for bleeding air out of the oil and or oil compartment?
@KardenW6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what the "preferred" method is, but here are my thoughts on it. Pump the jack to its full height. Physically turn it upside down and rest the plunger on a bench. Open the Up/Down valve. Press the jack downward, forcing the plunger into the cylinder. As the plunger moves in the cylinder, the oil AND AIR will be forced out into the normal oil reservoir. Once the plunger is in as far as it will go, close the valve. That should get rid of any air in the cylinder. Thanks for watching the video! I'm surprised at the interest it has attracted. I would like to take a moment and give anyone who views this video some valuable information on Keith Williams and the awninglock he promotes. I have to preface my comments by saying I have never met Keith and I have not used the awninglock yet. The main reason I am taking the time to post this comment is in response to the people who have given Keith's videos a "dislike". In my younger tears I was a professional RV Tech for 10+ years. I was having difficulty identifying the model of an awning installed on a 2003 RV. I contacted the RV manufacturer (Forrest River) and two authorized dealers asking for assistance in the ID of the awning. Two weeks later I am still awaiting a response. After doing some Google searches, I ran across a page talking about awning locks. I contacted Keith Williams by email explaining my problem with some pictures attached. A few hours later I received a response from Keith saying he would see what he could do. Within 24 hours I had another response from Keith with the make of the awning along with his recommendations on repair. I am someone who does a lot of research & communication on the internet and I can say, without question, that Keith Williams is a man of high integrity and worthy of respect. I will be ordering the awninglock.com as soon as I can to install on my 18" Carefree Awning. Also, from my experience, the unfurling of an awning is rare occurrence for the weekend RV enthusiast. There are many factors to consider but the most important one is that all RV awnings utilize a sub-standard spring locking mechanism. If you were to take the time to inspect the locking mechanism you would discover that it is made out of knurled aluminum tension device and expected to hold several hundred pounds of spring tension. The awninglock.com device is the only viable solution to insure that the problem will not occur.

No, it didn't. I bled the air out. It wasn't' low on oil. It's not leaking oil. I took out plunger and the seals seem Ok. I hardly used it in 15 years. Can't think of what else to do. I bought another one yesterday: 12 ton for $30, but I would like to fix this thing. It jacks up with no weight on it, but stops when it has a load. I didn't drain the oil and refill, maybe that? ??? Thanks!
@KardenW6 жыл бұрын
If the seals leaked, I'd expect to see oil coming out around the plunger. How about this: The "up/down" valve isn't closing properly. It could be stuck in one position due to lack of use. Or, there could be a little spec of foreign material in it which holds it open a bit, thus preventing it from jacking up under load. You might try opening the "switch", then pumping several pumps, then closing it and pumping a few times. then repeating. Or you might want to take the up/down switch out. There's probably a ball and spring in there. (Don't lose the ball!!!) It might be deformed or corroded or rusted, thus making it so it doesn't seal properly. It seems to me that the problem must be in this valve! Good luck, and please post the answer to the problem!

@KardenW6 жыл бұрын
I've forgotten the position of the valve. But... I would think it would not make much difference, as the "shaft" is full-down into the cylinder ---therefore there would be very little oil in the cylinder under the shaft. On the other hand, it would make sense to have it open, so that oil anyplace in the jack would be free to flow out. Thanks for the question ---and for watching!
