dido, mine had a heavy plate between that I used tin snips, dont try that one with a saws, your risking cutting tank and they touch each other in many spots. thanks for the vid!

The hardest part is plotting the hole to cut blind and everyone seems to do so little with measurements.... Since these vehicles also have door handles that break every 1.5 years I cut a hole by the mechanism to turn a 3hr job into 15mins. also.

Hey Justin is there any reason why you didn't have the floor board hinge from the side of the fuel lines so you can avoid the worries of possibly cutting them ?

Thank you for the tips, I'll change my fuel pump this weekend.
@onehawk84109 жыл бұрын
one other tip... since the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel try to keep the tank at least 1/4 full. this will reduce overheating and ad to the of the pump.

thanks for the info , it helped a lot. Just a couple additions..... just getting the seats and carpet out is a job itself plan 3-4 hours for the entire job. I used my oscillating cutting tool to cut the metal it gave me much more control than my sawzall would. after two minor cuts on my fingers I lined the sharp edges of the metal to prevent something worse. Some new pumps come with a wire conversion kit but if you get a pump with a different end on the wires you can switch the jack from the old pump.

Any recommendations on how to remove the carpet? Do you start from the back and roll it forward or go the other way? Thanks!

I own a 1994 Safari. Is the fuel pump located in the same location? Thanks in advance to whomever answers my question.
@jbncnow9 жыл бұрын
enemyofmandacity It doesnt matter if its a cargo van or passenger van the gas tank is in the same spot, your supposed to drop the gas tank to get the fuel pump out but this is better, EVERY vehicle should have a trap door, he just made his own, i went one step farther and put a flush mounted RV door and sealed it in real good to keep exhaust fumes and water out and i can just open the hinged door to service the fuel pump when needed.

The sawsall is ok if you are very patient and careful. You can also use a cut off tool but if you really want good results. I always use a gauge swivel head shear. You can run along the ribs and you won't end up cutting any hoses or wires.

It looks like your tank has been removed at least once because from the factory 1996 and up there is a metal pan that surrounds the outer and top of the fuel tank to help avoid crush on side impacts .You can cut that with tin snips .I noticed someone had mentioned this so I thought I would add my 2 cents worth. And thanks for the measurements Im doing the same thing in a 95 safari its too damn cold up here to screw around on the ground..

I think I'll just drop the tank, easier than cleaning out the inside to get to the floor!

Had mine changed once, many years ago. How do you know a fuel pump is bad other than the van wont start/run. Any test to diagnose the pump to be sure its not some other problem before cutting up the floor? Thanks!
@johnnymax62456 жыл бұрын
spray ether into the air filter...if it fires, its a fuel problem, if it doesnt its a spark problem (check the cap)

Thank you very much you saved me over $650 minus the $160 for the fuel pump of course...mechanics all seem to want to bend us over & ride us but this is perfect.
