The "Model" designations for the Iron man armors are from the comics it's basically like, an entire new kind of armor is referred to as a different Model, but a model can have different variations which is what "mark" is used for. So like there's Model 1, but then there's Model 1 mk 2. The MCU streamlined it and just used "Mark"
