Outstanding content and presentation, and great music. Thanks for taking the time to put this together - hope you’ll continue to add more esoteric content from your fabulous collection - maybe another untold story, mess tin covers ? Thanks again, great stuff indeed.

I had one that was galvanized. I suspected that it was just an iron bottle that someone had removed the enamel from, but when I removed the felt to examine it, there was an ink stamped broad arrow on the bottom of the bottle. Haven’t seen another like it, and haven’t found any information on it.

Great video and very informative. One issue though, the statement that the bandolier allowed the British soldier to carry almost double the ammunition compared with the German soldier is wrong. British webbing carried 30x 5rd chargers, the bandolier 10 chargers, total is 40. The German equipment carried 24x 5rd chargers, their bandolier carried 14, for a total if 38. Certainly not "almost double". If each man were to wear 2x bandoliers, the British man's total would increase to 50 chargers, the German to 52.

I wonder how Pattern 37 would being cumbersome for those soldiers who using it since they had to carry 2-4 magazine for the Bren Gun in their section and they had to wrap a clip bandolier along with their body. Plus, they can only have 50 round ready for their rifle.
@Emdee56326 ай бұрын
As far as I understand it, that was considered enough for carrying with them. Just like the Germans with their MG34 and later the MG42, the main British section's or squad's firepower was supposed to be the Brengun. The rest of the group carried its ammunition. At least British webbing reflected this. German soldiers usually had to carry in their hands full sized mg ammo boxes at their handles.

What caused the radical change of universal pouches on the 1937 pattern was the Bren. Each universal pouch could carry two Bren gun magazines. The section was therefore an ammo carrying unit for the Bren gun.

So I've got a Canadian Manufacture Water bottle (extremely faded, but still present, oval stamp and broad arrow mark) as well as an 1940 production Z.T. & L. ltd skeleton carrier. (and 2 other seemingly GP straps that help form a sling) For 72 dollars (Canadian) i might have spent a little over what its probably worth, but the condition of the bottle, felt, and carrier is so good that i dont think i mind. (Plus that price is after a 10% discount i got) Thank you so much. This video was incredibly helpful.

Hello, just dipping my toes in here. Thanks for the detailed views. Do you have a ID for this item described below? I have a khaki webb pack stamped M.E.CO.1915. It has a brass clip at top front-centre (like a leash clip), a wooden toggle/string at bottom front-centre. The adjustable shoulder straps are sewn-on at top with their 2 5/16" buckles attached, and have a quick release clip by small D ring on lower RH strap to pack body. LH shoulder strap permanently attached to lower body with a larger D ring. Shoulder straps have brass 'fold-over' clip (for ammo pouches?), and stamped RD NO. 639521.A pair of webb straps hang underneath pack body (for groundsheet?), and a similar pair on the top face of pack lid. The fold over cover flap with clipped corners has a horizontal webb strap across its mid point. Pack is undivided internally and 3 1/4" in width. A stamp in purple ink on rear side of pack appears to be a large C followed with a similarly sized crooked stroke with short right angled leg at top.
