Of all the "apocalypse" films, "On the Beach" one is, perhaps, the most depressing and unnerving because of the unreality of it all. The bombs gave fallen, and humanity is on the verge of becoming extinct... and everybody is so bloody CALM about it. No one's freaking out, no one's cracking and going on a violent crime spree, just another... last day in paradise. "Radiation's coming? Oh, dear. Well, let me get my suicide pills and drink up what I can of the port."

Aged nine at the time, I was halfway through junior school. My musical memories then were of Atarah Ben Tovim and her concerts at Birmingham Town Hall. She inspired me to learn about music-making and the orchestra. I am now in my early fifties and a string player in an amateur orchestra (with the gift of perfect pitch!)
@ianleiper5 ай бұрын
Good on you to watch this afraid the clarity is poor but back in 1979 things were different as this was on a Vidio Tape. Last year's Proms on their Last Night was really poor and more Foreign Flags than our Union Jack I was living in Scotland then and did not see 1 Scottish Flag on that night.I did see a Cornish Flag which cheered me up as I have lived in Cornwall since I retired 20 plus years back.All the best in your String Playing and thanks for watching.
