I think it’s easy to sleep on Kelly because she’s so normal - her look, her name, so this surprised me to hear at first but actually thinking about it, she is fantastic. Her branding just isn’t the most iconic so it can be overlooked.

Kelly has just about a three octave range but it's what she does within that range that makes her one of the best vocalists on the planet. Her phrasing, her ability to effortlessly slide through her range and her ability to handle any song in any any genre flawlessly puts her way up in her class. As far as American Idol goes, I did watch it in its early days and my most lasting memory is Kelly doing Stuff Like That There which likely clinched her winning. She looked like the epitome of a 1940s big band singer with the blue polka dot dress and her hair pulled back in the style of that era. Her delivery not only wowed the judges, the audience and the TV viewers, but the band members as well. They were in awe of her and had to keep up with her singing. Simon might have been right about Kelly paving the way for the show's ongoing success and that number may have been the key to it.

More than her astonishing talent, Kelly’s best feature for me is her inhabitation of whatever she’s singing. She n feels’ the song. In the early 2000s there was a televised international Idol contest in which she sang You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman) - it’s on KZbin. I watch it to this day. When she sings "oh, baby, what you’ve done to me" I get chills. I’ve never seen anyone do it like her.

its just the state of modern shows. if its not a hit in season 1 or 2 it gets axed. the ironic thing is the original show didn't get its footing till season 3.

Both Versions are Beautiful on their own, Same song but from 2 different artists, you can tell they delivered different grace and both are amazing and cannot be compared in any way

Kelly's wonderful but Ariana clearly isn't familiar with other singers around the world. The top filipino singers (Morrisette, Katrina, Regine) have the same versatility and higher range than Kelly. Sohyang from Korea is my personal top.

Kelly is an incredible singer. Im in the uk and shes the only pop idol / x factor show in the usa we know Kelly has charisma Some people with incredible voices but they dont connect with the audience the way Kelly does And thats why her fame never fizzled out Shes the real deal !!

If movies and art is designed to reflect society then yes gay people exist, they make up like 5% of the population, but their representation is disproportionately high. Even worse, if it is spoken out against, even in the slightest ways, people are doxxed, insulted, and harassed into silence by that 5%. I am certain I will see some of that from this comment.
