Very nice build! Wondering if you could have turned off the music and demonstrated the noise levels with the spindle running and the enclosure open compared to when closed to understand its effectiveness. Other than this, it's very nice and clean!

@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment…I’ll try to demonstrate that in a future video. What I can tell you is the noise difference between the enclosure open vs closed is a significant difference. I’m also planning on upgrading from the router to a VFD spindle. That will also make a difference in overall noise.

Great video. Could you have used a bowl bit instead of the forstner bit to make the cigar channels?
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 4 ай бұрын
Yes, actually that would be a good idea. Now that I make all of my cigar ashtrays with my CNC, using a bowel bit is exactly how I make them now. Next time I make one this way I’ll use the bowl bit for sure. Thanks for the question!

instead of using masking or painters tape during glue up for ur clamps, you can use the clear plastic packing tape. works wonders, no need for scraping afterwards.

How deep did you make the dado for the slides? Trying to see how close I can get the sides without compromising the area that gets the dado.
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question. All you need to factor in is the thickness of the drawer slides. Since the enclosure sides dados match up with one another. I took the thickness of a draw slide divided it by two and used that measurement as the depth of each dado. If my drawer slide measured out to be 3/8 of an inch thick. I would divide 3/8 by 2, and cut the dado to .187 inches deep. Hope this helps. Good luck with your build.

I’m moving up to painting CNC projects and have seen a few different types of painting out there. What’s the benefit/function of using epoxy over spray or brush-on paints?
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. It depends on the type of project and application. If I’m making a sign, paint would make more sense than epoxy. Less costly and faster project completion time. If I’m making a cutting board I would recommend epoxy for its durability and safe around food. Hope this helps. Happy to answer any additional questions. Take care!

Love the video. I ended up starting to do a similar build but have a question. Did you put any support under the bottom plywood between the metal support cross beam? When I started loading weight onto the bottom plywood, it’s bending a good bit
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 Жыл бұрын
Great question… I actually did add supports at first, because I was experiencing the same thing. However, when I started framing out the actual box which included the top part of the cabinet, that provided all the support and tension needed to keep the bottom from sagging.

I have done my own modification of one of the 52” version adding a undermount shelf to the rear of the table top behind the two drawers mine came equipped with. Mine was purchased to hold two diode lasers weighing around 50 lbs each. The thing none of these modifications mention is that the weight limit on these Husky tables is 300lbs. The manufacturer is probably being conservative but it’s still a factor worth keeping in mind. It would also be nice to know what would be most likely to fail under excess load. You could beef up casters but if it’s the crank mechanism that’s a different matter.
@byronsinclair3956

The weight capacity limit and addressing that is what I came looking for information on before making the commitment to purchasing one. The crank mechanism is my concern.

Awesome video. What is that purple surface you put the tray on
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797
@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question… The purple surface you’re asking about is 120 grit sandpaper, glued to a piece of plywood. I also have the underside of that piece of plywood covered in sandpaper too. I use that as a way to keep the material from moving around while I’m standing it either by hand or with an electric/orbital sander.
