This is an absolute gem. Anyone got any idea what happened to the classicjazzguitar website that he mentioned? It's offline....

I love Butter Top! I have heard different versions...all good and never played the same way twice! I'm almost done learning his part from the original studio recording. What a blast!
Omg, thanks for posting this. Junior is the real thing.

I can't believe he said he didn't like Roy Buchanan. It must have been in a bad setting in a bad time in his life when he saw Roy, because some of his recording are the greatest guitar playing ever, period. One of the greatest overall performers ever. At his best his shows were like religious experiences.

The legendary Slippery Noodle Inn in Indianapolis would book touring national acts on weekdays so it was with glee I went to see Jr. on a Tuesday night. Lo and behold some fool in the sparse crowd requests Stevie Ray Vaughn! LOL! I asked Jr. about that during his break and he said it happens all the time. Imagine that!

Can anyone help me to understand what Jr. says at 9'20'' ? "I think one of the greatest records of all the time is ......... xxxxxxx"... fuck I can't understand! Sorry I'm Italian, my English is not so good. Thanx guys 😎

Its a record by Otis Spann and Robert Jr. Lockwood a duo recording. Otis Spann is the Blues. As is discussed in the video there were two recordings in the series with St. Louis Jimmy as a guest vocalist who sings Going Down Slow. Terrific records. The genius of Robert is on full display as he comps to Spanns keys. Great stuff.

He name checks many greats here but around 24 minutes he mentions Peter Green but then goes off at a tangent! I'd love to hear any Greeny stories Junior has.....

He's playing Matt Stubbs' guitar. Stubbs is Charlie Musselwhite's guitar player, and is a great instrumentalist and a band leader in his own right

I don't know much about Roland amps, but the sound is awesome all the same! Great choice of tune and really tasteful playing!

Beautiful! I'm looking for the lyrics of this tune, but I can't find it anywhere...I suppose an original version does not exist...since I'm from Italy, I have some difficulty understanding all the words...

At 21:59 , he asked Junior about a "Viking Theme Song"....It's actually called "En la gruta del rey de la montaña" or "In The Hall Of The Mountain King".....now MY questions is how in world did Junior stumble across THAT tune and decide to play it on guitar?
@kellyjay74485 жыл бұрын
LOL! I was in a band that did a lot of novelty shit and we used to play that. We even kept speeding it up "just like the original."

Junior, in my book, is the best guitarist in the jump blues genre. The chord bends blow me away, he's got style!
@kellyjay74485 жыл бұрын
They all have their own quirks and strong points. I find that Jr. has a hurky jerky way of phrasing but he's melodically/harmonically the most adventurous. But they're all great, Hollywood Fats, Duke Robillard, Charlie Baty, Ronnie Earl, Alex Schultz........

@ Jr. SugarFingers Linton You ain't too shabby your own self! I've been meaning to get up to the Red Lion jam. I used to live in the city, know Big Ed, and most of the players. Maybe we'll get a chance to play together some day. Are you in NY or LA?
@Fatshead10 жыл бұрын
I'm the last person to toot my own horn, but I think it's the unspoken common language of the blues that makes this clip above average, and of course having players of uncommon talent doesn't hurt one bit!

Thanks again. Matt Daniels really stole the show at the IBC in Memphis. He's an awesome player with great feel for this kind of groove. Kenny and Mike have been the longtime rhythm section for harpist Steve Guyger and the top acts in the 4-state area of Pa/Nj/De/NY. I'm just an old fart!
