For those who do not agree with playing music in Russia, then no one can play in any non-democratic country... Russia, China, Qatar, Kuwait, Emirates, etc. Nor can you go to countries that invade others: all those that attacked Syria, for example. I remember Argentina, years ago, I saw Brazilian bands play, Queen, Chick Korea and all the American jazz bands (they were almost all of them). They shouldn't have left. By the way, what is your opinion of the products sold by the West and the business with those countries?

I really like Newen Afrobeat and the way Roberto Tito Gevert drums! I removed Tito's drums (may he forgive me) and drummed a different rhythm and my own fills: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4eXnXyinN9lrqcsi=vBU13qE0bXnM52_4

I spent my youth travelling as a musician and performing in different countries. The music that had a lasting effect on me was Fela and afrobeat. I performed on stage in Ghanaian nightclubs and hotels in the early 70’s with some of the best. I’m so impressed with your show

Yes, don't let those who hate only because their rulers tell them to hate some enemy while provoking wars and occupying most of the world with global military bases. Be a beacon of hope, of cooperation, of trade, of sharing, not one of war that the western governments impose via their propaganda.

Really like you guys, Tito drumming is brilliant, but playing in Russia in this day and age; Wow, that's only Putin, Trump and every right wing nut job i European politics who thinks that´s a good idea.
@homewall7446 күн бұрын
You have a broken mind where you think politics trumps all, that your US military and NATO empires are somehow magically good while in never-ending undeclared wars and never-ending provoking others into war.

@OfficeHome Everybody knows that, but the importance is who you are pointing them at.

@@robinsonfriday real music, art, are not like politricks. They fundamentally unite rather than divide. The audience is not soldiers or governments people, they're just people like us, and what better band than Newen to spread a unity vibe? 😙
@robinsonfriday4 күн бұрын
Well that sound a bit naive. Music and arts have been used political for centuries . What next on their your list ? Tel Aviv? Damaskus ? North Korea ? Kiev was bomb a lot yesterday, så seems like the Unity vibe means fuck sll

Russia? In 2024? With your politics I'd have hoped you would boycott a colonial ecocidal empire currently waging a genocidal war in Europe. I was worried other artists I follow would have bad takes, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised that even the left-leaning ones have been clear about the awfulness of Russia. Extremely bad judgment from you guys. 🌻

It's a controversial thing, but just to remember: the birth of afrobeat was Fela creating his music in circumstances of military dictatorship...

I just remembered a video with Daniel Kramer, a protagonist and educator of the jazz scene in Russia. kzbin.infoLkop9rFHfVA?si=E82JcsrDdU7VhOuw Please check out at least the first few minutes (turn on translation!). It's like with Fela: culture is the weapon. And it's not about the division into "western", "eastern", "southern" or whatever. It's about culture and respect (for people, for nature, for the recognition of the mistakes that have been made in history...) in times when the danger of losing this is massively increasing again globally.

I saw this band three times inside of a two-week span when they toured California, an incredibly talented and high energy band! There have been some personnel changes since then, but the core of the group remains intact, and they are still killing it! Go see them if you can and follow them on the socials.
