Thank you for sharing this information. I will be pulling out some cannas from my MIL’s house and I was concerned about cutting them down and replanting them.

I picked up two Datura in the spring, a white one and a yellow one is all they had. I had no idea what they were but I loved the flowers. As I popped the dead flowers off spikey balls started growing. I thought they looked cool so I left some. I didn’t realize they were seed pods until I googled to see what they were so I let a bunch more grow from each plant. Now I have about 30 seed pods from each plant that I’m going to try to grow. I should get a few from 60 pods with a zillion seeds in each pod, lol! I need to find other colors now, the purple is gorgeous!! Thanks for the Aloe Vera tip, I didn’t know it was a rooting compound, I have two giant aloes!

How old is that tree? Mine is staying so thin! Its about 8' tall but only about 1" in diameter. I'm considering cutting it back after i harevst the seed pods. Is that a good idea? Im in central florida zone 9B, mone is 1 year old, only in the ground 3 months though. It gets full sun all day, watering about twice a week. It only put out 2 pods 😔

You also can place the seeds in a cup and pour boiling water over them for 15 to 20 seconds and it causes micro fissures in the seed coating….it does work

Very nice cannas! I was gonna say where do you live?! Haha and then you said AZ lol no wonder! Im in OR and I brought my cannas inside for the winter. I never cut down one of them since it was still growinh leaves inside. Now the other one that died off and I did cut back is starting to shoot up and just got its first leaves! I think I'm gonna cut out some of the older stalks out of the other one I didn't trim back before since they stopped growing.. and I just realized the plant has also put out 3 newer stalks!😊

Would it not be better to let the leaves die back so that the Nutrients from the said leaves are absorbed by the rhizomes??
