I wonder if she's singing over a backing vocal. You can see her pull the mic away early several times while hearing the exhale of hair at the end of the screams...not sure how to describe it.
@stephentate2722Ай бұрын
Yes. Backing tracks are super common. This was at the Showbox SoDo which has terrible acoustics. I don't mind backing when they are singing on a live mic. She was interacting with the crowd and it was easy live to tell the difference between the live vocals and backing track.
@jjwhalen2587Ай бұрын
@@stephentate2722 Thought so. It is common. I saw a video of Dua Lipa dropping the mic but you can still hear her singing, but quieter. You could tell the difference from her singing live, then dropping the mic and only the backing vocal comes through quieter.

probably one of the best examples of a pop star going from pop vocals to actual good sounding scream vocals; if not THE best example. i've heard a couple of other pop singers try to do this and fail so hard i suffered from second hand embarrassment. people hear screams and think it's just nonsense yelling into a mic when it is definitely much more than that.

I never thought I would see a pit at a Poppy concert, but here it was. It was far more intense than expected. Granted Stabbing, Sanguisugabogg, and Cannibal Corpse were far crazier this year, but shit, this is a POP artist... and she had a legit pit going.

She was absolutely lip-syncing. She removed the microphone before she finished "singing" the line 'betray you!' People are either gullible or Poppy is deleting comments.
@stephentate27226 ай бұрын
It's called a backing track. Her mic was live, and both her live vocals and the backing can be heard. She stopped her live scream to take a breath without the fade, but the studio track has her hold it into kind of a moan. It is incredibly common to use a backing track, but she was interacting with the crowd and changing things up live. In concert, it is way easier to hear both her live vocals and the track. In recordings like this, you do not hear them separated as they are just both in the mix and picked up together by the camera.
@garethlawton52784 ай бұрын
Her mics live, no ones denying that. It's live at all her shows. But she relies on backing tracks because often during her shows she's not actually singing parts. She has parts she does but often it's mimed. Big poppy fan but it's pretty obvious she mimes man.@@stephentate2722
