I love how she sees the world. I think she’s so alien to the Americans she can really get them to see another side to their strange culture.

At this point John Denver had been a member of The Mitchell Trio for about a year, but he was already thinking about going solo. He recorded several demos and paid to produce 250 copies of a solo album that he gave out to friends and family and anyone who might be able to help him land a solo recording contract. But no record label was interested, so he stayed with the Mitchell Trio for another 2 years. In early 1967, his producer (Milt Okun) developed an interest in "Babe I Hate To Go" -- but he thought that it was better suited for one of his other acts (Peter, Paul & Mary). He also suggested changing the title to "Leaving On A Jet Plane", which John reluctantly agreed to do. When John found out that PP&M weren't planning to release the song as a single, he decided to release a version by The Mitchell Trio. But it failed to chart. And that might have been the end of the story, except that other artists kept the song alive through various cover versions, and this got the attention of Peter, Paul & Mary's record label, which decided to re-release their version of the song in the fall of 1969. And it ended up becoming a #1 hit, an instant classic three years in the making.

Your show, once discovered, was the one I never missed. You expanded my musical horizons far beyond the few artists I had been aware of as a teen. Thank you so much.

I'm Mike Williams, Emmylou's partner in the duet The Emerald City. We sang in DC in early summer 1966 until I got on my Harley 74 and wandered to the west coast. (Emmylou and I reunited the following winter and sang in Virginia Beach coffeehouses in spring 1967.) It's wonderful to hear Emmylou singing . . . I don't recall writing this song, but it's in my early style. If it's actually my song, it predates what I recall as my first "keepers" written in September 1966, one of which, "Catch Another Butterfly," John Denver recorded on his first album. Looking back nearly 60 years now, it's a nice feeling to have songs sung by Emmylou Harris and John Denver before I turned 23. I'm still writing and singing. This winter Ray Stevens recorded my "I Guess You've Never Been in Love with the Moon" for his upcoming new album. I'll keep plugging away, hopefully getting a cut every half century or so. Life is good, and full of rich memories.

Hi Mike, thanks for the comment, as I was lucky to have this on tape from the Dick Cerri Radio show. He died in 2012 and everyone knew Dick in folk music. All of Dick's radio shows and concerts he did are on reel to reel tape. They need to be digitialtize one day. I have some early Denver concerts myself. I have the biography on Denver. Anyway, I am glad you came across this. Glad you are doing okay. Mike

When the woman said that building the wall will put people to work...lol,well what about actually making things, building manufacturing base and then people would be in work, buying houses etc...honestly they really are thick as *hit. They totally ignore facts and history...like slavery and genocide of indigenous people and wars with Mexico, they rely on Mexican labour for their fruit picking and cheap labour. The y talk about Trump as working man when so much of his wealth was built on corruption, corrupt government contracts using state wealth to build housing projects etc... Also America first motto"...well what does that even mean when America interferes in countries all over the world to extract their oil,to sell them weapons,to exploit resources and create wars,...America was built on extraction and exploitation of resources. Also Miriam, did you find out how that family survive and live in such a home etc with so many kids...how do they afford it ? I bet they get money from a church of some type, theres money in it for them.Honestly miriam I wish you weren't taken in so easily and had asked some more probling questions about their beliefs etc. They would not stand up to much scrutiny but then I guess they would just get upset and not talk to you.

That aircraft fire that took Stan from us changed the rules on how they deal with the circuit breaker issue that caused the fire on Stan's flight... That rule is saving lives still to this day. At least something good came of it. Stan's family are lovely people and they continue Stan's legacy with the Stan Rogers Folk festival in Canso. I work audio at at that festival and it's amazing.

@@patthesoundguy There is a youtube video about the plane and what happened, it is about Stan. It was mentioned in that video the changes for airplanes, lighting and o2 mask. That would of saved most of the 23 if not all, who died. We in MD are big fans of many Canadian Artist. Alan Doyle has 3 or 4 books he wrote.

Silly Garnet. Naugahyde cones from sidell gougers. Their left legs are shorter than thier right legs. Boot Ketzell raised sidell gougers in the hill country of Nebraska. Sidell gougers feed by grazing on the slopes of hills. Around and around they go, in an unhurried fashion. Sidell gougers starve on flat pasture. The grazing circle is too small. When you butcher and skin a sidell gouger, they produce Spam. So THERE!

I first heard Stan's music 2 years before his death on a Saturday morning folk music show hosted by Eric Keukles on W.A.I.F. in Cincinnati shortly after getting out of the Navy, first hearing Jeanie C, I was an instant fan. Eric called me to turn on the news in 1983. I regret turning on the tv. Everytime I hear Stan's name or a song by him ,the first image that pops in my mind is that damned plane.

Hi I have been to Cincinnati once in 1993, as we were for baseball and yes, we did see Marge and Shotzie, spelling. Had ribs at Montgomery Ribs. Thanks for your service in the Navy, my mother was Married to Lt. Col. William McReynolds, as he was a super person, both are buried at the Naval Academy. I am a supporter of www.songwritingwithsoldiers.org. They are in our will. I learned about this org. due to Mary Gauthie. She has a CD called Rifles and Rosary Beans. What the org. does, they get soldiers who have problems after getting out of the service, many come home not the same due to mental or physical. They tell the story they have to musicians, and they work with the person to get what is going on with him into music. Deals with family members having issued. My mother could have used this group when her 19 yr. old brother, an army mechanic in Florida did in a plane crash. It affected her for her entire life that dead. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGnNqGmrYt53ntE This is my video of Mary explaining the group and sings The War Against the War. All the best, Mike

The problem with some people in America is that they are so dogmatic and arrogant about the fact that they’re the greatest country in the world. There are many things they do well and many that they don’t. One of which is I witnessed a man collapse out side of an ER. He didn’t have insurance and ER staff wouldn’t come out and help him…we dragged him in to the department and they wouldn’t tend to him. He went into cardiac arrest..I’m an ER nurse from the Uk so I started CPR on the ER reception floor. They walked by and went on with their business. I begged them to let me at least use their oxygen and defib. They refused. He died. That’s the greatest country in the world? I think not.

Thats the most disturbing story ever, for medically trained people signed up to the hippocractic oath presumably to allow a man to die in front of them simply because he could not pay for treatment, that is not the sign of a civilised nation. I did not think they would actually leave a person to die like that,I thought when it came to emergencies like cardiac arrest they would treat a person especially if right there. Maybe it also depends on which state you are in,America is many different countries apart from when it comes to universal healthcare and corporate greed
