I have the ES1 M2 you can sample your samples on and on and sample again using the effects , also line in can have effects in real time as well. A nice size layout makes this a real keeper. I got the Volca sample,a horrid little thing that i never use 😉

Recognize any of the songs? What about some of the more obscure samples like the beats or the stabs? There are a few that would be impossible to recognize due to layering in a wall of audio or the obscurity of the source. They include: 1. The morse code-like sound in the beginning beat intro is from Die Hard. It's where the elevator door is opening. 2. "Dj" sample is from a youtube clip I found 3. and a few others I don't remember like the some snare fills and such

There are a bunch of samples in this megamix that even the most dedicated sample hound may not be able to identify. Only because of the obscurity or very sample play time. Samples also get lost in the wall of audio when tracks start getting stacked up. Here are the samples most likely to be unidentfiable: Lady yelling at teenagers in McDonalds - from youtube video The first beat is my own and is unreleased Electronic drums demo - can't remember where I found this sample There's a classic house sample in there too. For the old school house heads Flex your digging skills by leaving the samples you recognize in the comments and you can win the no-prize!

100s and 300s cannot be used for djing either. Any signals over 0db coming from a dj controller cuts the sound / introduces distortion with Aux in. If you go Guitar in it won’t but that’s unbalanced mono

I own both machines and have done sounds tests on them. The only REAL difference I could here was the low pass filter on the XL is definitely better. I love the sound it creates, such warm fat sound. I hardly ever use the XL anymore. But if the 2500 had the same filter, it would be 10x doper. Not a deal breaker though, by any means. Plus the workflow and speed on the 25k is much nicer.

But everyone knows the 2500 sounds terrible... you seem to be really new to this... Sell that lame 2500 to an ignorant hipster and get a 2000 classic.

Duuuuuuude! Love the video! My first MPC was a 2000XL I had mailed to me to South Korea where I was stationed in 2000. My last MPC I ever bought back in 2016 was my 3000LE which I modded and still have today. Glad to hear about your Chicago House experiences. I was born and raised in the Chi but left in ‘89 for the US Air Force. I’ve dragged my music gear and records to 33 countries and now living in the UK. I remember when Derek Carter was first DJing back on Evanston, Illinois at WNUR as Derek “The Maestro” Carter in the early 90’s. I miss those days! Cheers from the UK! 🇺🇸🇬🇧

I use my 2000xl to control the drums sounds in garage band on my iPad and it’s wonderful. You actually can connect from scsi to USB with an adapter cable. Aren’t you the same guy who falsely claims you can’t add an internal drive in the MPC. You try to front like some kind of expert but you are ignorant AF about the XL
@APMTenants
@APMTenants Ай бұрын
You absolutely can put an extra drive in the 2000xl. Mine has an external flash card reader connected through a scsi bridge, so I’m not limited to 2gb cards. It also has an atapi flash card on the inside. That one is limited to 2gb. The complaint I see over and over again about the 2500 is that the switches fail. Sure, if they haven’t failed yet, you can claim “built like a tank,” until they do.

I have one of these in a closet. Bought it cuz it was cheap at the time, but never really got into it, and could never find an example or demo of somebody doing anything I liked with it, so, tucked it away. This is my FIRST TIME seeing something I thought was dope enough to inspire me to see what I can do with it...dope shit man

The new Mpc's are ok. Their just too bloated on Vst's/Fx, when really Akai should be focusing on Midi/Sampling Capabilities. Also sometimes I would rather stare at an ol LCD Dos Screen than the an new LED Screen. For some reason its easier on the eyes...

As someone who has owned & used the2000 classic , the xl & the 2500. I think your spot on. I've even gone back & forth bewtween these machine's. Th3 2500 is that mpc that doesnt feel like you're hindered by usng a vintage machine. My biggest compllsints with the xl was the lack of mute groups. There is something about the 2500' paint though.. it wears of faster than any machine I've ever used. Also. I gave a the Live II a chance. Im back on the 2500.

I agree. I'm dealing with that now. I used a Mpc2500 for years. It's been awhile since I've touched it but I know it like the back of my hand. I ran into a cheap 2000Classic and now that I only have 2 Mutes I find myself creating pads with no sound specifically to mute other pads more often than the 2500, or other Mpcs. Like a ton of people do this with like one pad a program/bank/group but now with only 2... I'm making 3 or more of them instead of one. I know I can hit the same pad I am using, then go in step edit and turn down the levels/volume but with the Pad it's easier because there is no "stop sample from playing" button. On most machines, you just push stop twice and it does it, like on the S2400, or any other newer Mpcs but with the 2000Classic, this is not the case. Sometimes you just don't wanna hear your sample play over and over driving ya nuts ya know? lmao

I sold my live for a 2000XL and I'm happy, the live was cheap and poor build quality, the touch screen felt awful and the screen hurt my eyes to look at, the pads were also awful. The 2000XL is fixable for life by the usser and a solid work horse that does everything I need. It's not hype, it's a solid work horse. It's the Telecaster of samplers.

I don't know if I agree with this. I have had a 2000xl for 25 yrs and it has done me super righteous. If you don't use it the way it was meant to be used, and already have a computer set up, you may not need it to its capacity. It still is what it is to this day, you may just not have need for what it does anymore. And yes, it's heavy as a bag of Rhino shit, but I still find it worth it. Mine is paired with the Roland Fantom. I only wish my Fantom offered me the sampling and chopping capabilities my MP does.

What kind of flash card do you use? And how do you format / partition it? I just bought a used XL and the MPC stuff screen is SUPER Laggy, hardly reacts to button presses sometimes, and I can’t get the card reader to recognize my CF cards. I tried two different ones. One 2 gb, but neither my Mac or pc let’s me partition it into 1gb, and the other one is 32Mb flash card that came with the 1000 thousand and that’s not recognized either. The card reader just keep saying “everything on disk will be deleted” over and over. Any help would be appreciated.

You get the sound/color with the Record Gain knob. There’s a sweet spot and every mpc2000xl is different. My boy had the blue one, I have the OG. They sound completely different. Also, messing with swing and timing changes the sound too

Imho the oversimplification is the point. I buy hardware for a specific focus. Otherwise I would just use my PC and do whatever I want, but then I end up endlessly twiddling and lose the creative flow

I guess, in this case it’s simply not the right tool for the job. Especially as the MPC has some onboard FX. I also would not use it for the Maschine , but rather for the Moog Grandmother or other monophonic voices of my eurorack… makes more sense for me

The main difference is the xl can use 4 programs in a sequence, but the Classic can only use 1. Anyone who doesn’t know that doesn’t really know how to use an MPC and shouldn’t be attempting to advise the public on the differences.

I have been using the 2000xl since 2015 and enjoy the workflow. Certainly looking into a newer unit in the future, but at the end of the day, its all about the person and mind behind the machine to make it do what it do. A newer machine does not guarantee better beats no matter the technology behind it. Thx for sharing as it's a great subject to get solid dialogue going!!
