Beautiful model. This is type of boats I was used to as a lad in NE Scotland. Do you know where I can get plans of this type of model, as I have been searching for a while now?

Not mentioned here is the actual inventor of the kind of machine you show here - and it's not Harrison.

The photo of the ship in drydock is of the first Princess Marguerite, as are the three black and white photos which show Queen Elizabeth aboard during the 1939 Royal Visit.

Just a small correction. Her hull was not strip planked, but carvel planked with edge-glued seams.

Possibly in confined quarters like a submarine or between floors, but sound powered phones are capable of communicating over a pair or wires up to 30 miles

The difference between sextants used by mariners and navigators is not due to the horizon moving around but rather that the natural horizon is not usually visible to aviators as it is for mariners. Aviators often are flying above the clouds or over land which does not present a smooth horizon as the sea presents to mariners. Hence the need to create an artificial horizon for aviators. Here using a bubble. I, too, am looking for a video demonstration of the bubble sextant in operation.

In medieval Europe these tusks were being traded from the Arctic circle and Western Europeans did not have any idea these came from a whale. So the legend of the mythical unicorn is believed to have started.

I should add that there is a naval myth that the three white tapes on the blue jean collar represented Nelson's three great victories at sea. This is most likely a retro explanation and when the seaman's uniform was introduced into the Royal Navy in 1857, the three tapes were probably just chosen for the sake of appearance and standardization.

The guillotine was ADOPTED by France in the late 1700's, and named for the doctor who PROPOSED its use as a "humane" form of execution. The actual device was created MUCH earlier, with different names, such as "the Halifax Gibbet" and different blade configurations, like a crescent-shaped edge, instead of the angled one we're used to seeing
