can you adjust a 40 - 60 pressure switch to 10 - 30?
@reclaimfilterssystemsinc75292 ай бұрын
Hi Ronnel, short answer is no, you have a little adjustment each way, but they do make special pressure switches that operate on lower pressures but they are non standard and usually expensive. It's cheaper to run a 30/50 pressure switch and use a pressure reducing valve in order to obtain the pressure you want.

Hi. This is fantastic. Can you do one with a low pressure cut off too? I’m having some issues with the low pressure cutting off when I adjust this. They had said the cut off was just a few pounds below my cut in. That does not give much leeway.

Have an on demand tankless water heater on a pump operated water system. Every time the pump cut in (20/40) the water heater would shut off ruining my shower. Followed your well done video and bumped up the pressure a few pounds and it silenced my bitchy wife. Thanks for you very well done video.
@reclaimfilterssystemsinc75299 ай бұрын
Glad to help. We have a tankless as well, and sometimes if the pressure isn't right you'll get a cold shower for a few seconds. It saves us a lot of money but it was finicky about pressure. We ended up installing a cycle stop valve and a larger ballast pressure tank to eliminate the pressure swings and now we have steady hot water. Hallelujah!

since my last post I followed the video instructions and bumped up the cut in pressure from 20 to 24. This seemed to resolve my issue with a cranky wife taking cold showers. @@reclaimfilterssystemsinc7529

By far the best explanation on how a pressure switch works. Thanks for sharing.
I had a pressure box installed and the pump keeps starting every few seconds. The max is adjusted to 30lbs. Should I adjust the bigger screw counter clockwise or what would you suggest? This problem is driving me up the wall. I hope you may have a idea of how to fix the problem.

So it's normal to have water in your gauge? Interesting. Thought that might have been a problem
@russkeller5747 Жыл бұрын
That's called a glycerin filled gauge. It's a stainless steel gauge filled with glycerin to prevent gauge bounce and vibration. If you've ever seen a gauge needle vibrate it's hard to make an accurate reading. Kind of a shock absorber for the needle and mechanism in the gauge.

I don’t have an ORP meter on the pool. The ozone generator is a 0-10 gram per hour, K1 unit. We usually run it at 5 to 6. The dial reads from 0 to 10 and corresponds linearly to the output.

No one has really gotten into the guts like you have. I'm working on mine, I get to 34 PSI and it doesn't cut off, it just sits there and the contacts never separate. Frustrating, but I think I'll have to get a new switch, it's about 20 years old. Any ideas? I cleaned the contacts and if I tap on the pipe below sometimes I can get it to disengage for a second. I was hoping it was something easier than replacing the switch but, that doesn't look too bad. Subscribed.
@russkeller5747 Жыл бұрын
At 34 PSI the contacts on a 30 to 50 or a 40/60 should be closed, energizing the pump so it keeps going to the cut off pressure of (50) or (60) psi. If the pump is not able to go higher than 34 psi there may be a pump issue or something is using water faster than the pump can push it. If you change the switch please make sure to cut power and drain water pressure first.

Is there any harm in widening the differential to 30 lbs?
@reclaimfilterssystemsinc7529 Жыл бұрын
If the cut off only adjustment will go that high it will not hurt anything. I suppose you have a reason, but you are not doing the pump or water system any favors by having such a wide pressure sweep. Typically we adjust it up + 2 psi to give the pump a slightly longer run cycle and prevent the ON/OFF/ON/OFF cycling that could occur if the gap is too small, but widening it too much may result in a pump that never turns off or leaks from too much or too little pressure beyond the expected 30-50 or 40-60 psi.
@rogerg4916 Жыл бұрын
@@reclaimfilterssystemsinc7529 Yes, I can adjust it that high, probably more. I was thinking that it would give less frequent pump cycling. My concern was that it might overstretch the tank diaphragm and cause premature failure.
@nckeller Жыл бұрын
@@rogerg4916 A Ha!, Ok common problem when the tanks (pump tank A.K.A. ballast pressure tank) start to go bad. The air-bladder starts to fill with water or the pressure in the bladder is to low, or both. With ZERO water pressure the ballast tank air pressure should be 28 psi using a 30/50 pressure switch, or 38 on a 40/60 switch. It’s the pump switch cut-in pressure minus 2 psi.

my pressure switch has only one adjustment it is a sta rite pump how do both adjustments with just one place to adjust ?
@russkeller5747 Жыл бұрын
Hi Cliff: Sometimes smaller pumps with a built in pressure switch have just one adjustment for the range. It will be missing the cut off only adjustment. They seem to work OK and if you ever replace it you can install the better type with both. The Square D's are still OK but I really like the Merrill's Heavy Duty Standard no lead pressure switch. It has Allen key wire retainers and the contacts and contact plates are a bit beefier.

Thank you (911) Mother hen needs h20 for her chicks... Is there a way to do any adjustments without a working gauge on the pump or pressure tank. I bought the house and the pump was as is. The pump runs so far 20 min. and it never shut off. The pressure switch states that its calibrated at 30-50. I set the pressure , bladder tank at 28 psi with a pump. I don't know if the pressure switch is at the 30-50 factory settings. Is there a way to back out the screws and start over counting the turns. Or in a pinch get the pump to get water to the house. The pressure tank is empty and the pump just runs with out any water to house or well/trol pressure tank> Any help is appreciated.

Great easy to understand and clear explanation, got the where flowing again thanks
@reclaimfilterssystemsinc75292 жыл бұрын
In Bar it’s 0.138 less that the on pressure. For example: That’s 2 psi under cut in, so for a 40/60 switch the pressure in the tank “dry” with zero pressure on the system and the pump off is 38 psi. Cut in 40 less 2 psi equals 38 psi. If the pressure is too high you may get water hammer, if too low then your pressure could drop suddenly when to use water and could cause an on/off/on/off… cycling of the switch which could ruin a pump motor.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/g56bd3V-iM53odU What is the pressure switch is used in this machine?
@reclaimfilterssystemsinc75292 жыл бұрын
Looks like a simple demand switch. When the nozzle opens and the pressure in the system drops it’s contacts open or close doing something like maybe mixing the aggregate. The type of switch depends on the pressure used. Once you know the supply pressure and the pressure drop when the nozzle is opened you can go to Grainger or McMaster Carr and look-up an appropriate switch to handle the load.

@russkeller57472 жыл бұрын
If the contacts are closed and you have no pressure you start with (assuming you know how to use a multimeter) check power on both sides of the switch. Here in the U.S. it's usually 230VAC. If you have power and no water, you may have a bad pump. Lastly sometimes gauges go bad and can read zero but you can still have pressure. If all else fails, call a well driller or plumber in your area and they'll get it straight. Good luck
