This advice is great for indie developers. It's probably not so great for AAA studios that have to present executives with a compelling pitch, and once the executives agree to that pitch, it becomes rather difficult to come to those same executives and say "uh, actually, that initial idea we had for the game is not working out and we want to do something else". Or heck, not even AAA studios, but just people who kickstarted their game and now have a lot of promises to keep, for better or worse.
@MostafaNassar17 күн бұрын
@@randomcontenthello yup, completely agree. But most people who kick started their game already have a compelling demo and great GDD. I think gamers got burned so much in the past and thankfully got pickier with where to spend their money.

A fresh my look - your game graphics looks insane, "realistic pixel-art". But the main protagonist ... looks strange. I've checked - your protagonist never update his look since the begging of the project. He just don't fit this pixel-word. Maybe it is need to change something? For example, change blue "real" duck to bright yellow rubber duck. It has meaning that fun bright stuff win in this dark world
@MostafaNassarАй бұрын
Thank you, you're right Duck Norris should get an updated look to match the graphics. I played around with yellow colors and it looks gorgeous

You've learned and grown as a game developer more than most developers have in years, even in the AAA space. I would also argue that timing is of utmost importance. Combat is a dance, there's rythm to it. Even the most chaotic games can become as smooth as butter to a player in the thick of it. Why do you think (good) bullet hell shooters look like noise to the rest of us and when you're in the zone it's like playing Mozart.
@MostafaNassarАй бұрын
Thank you, what you said makes sense. Bullet hells are peak evolution of how code and art are shown on the screen

i feel like its really obvious that gameplay > graphics i mean, just look at successful games like deep rock galactic, lethal company, minecraft of course, graphics and sound design will make a game into cinema, like helldivers 2 but gameplay is king, theres a reason people still speedrun stuff like mario 64

@defytonesАй бұрын
@@vipered1863 same happened to me. tried starting over and over again without any luck and one day... poof. it all started making sense. you really just have to take another route which, in my case was actually trying to understand what programming is about. I'm not talking about coding at all. you need to understand how programming works and how they design cool shit. there are a lot of tutorials on youtube which explain this concept with very basic terms. once you get it done, you will need to start coding at a really sloooow pace. like just getting a character moving, shooting, doing other basic stuff. you'll quickly realize how coding challenges your thinking, skills and how you're actually paying attention. it all becomes really fun after that phase. I spent hours on godot the first time I tried to make a character shoot and then adjusted the shooting to my taste. days went by with little progress each time but it was worth it every fucking time. any time i could achieve my little goal after hours spent on it. I would also advice getting all the help you can. watch some tutorials about the engine you like online, get a hold of it. join the community servers, people are so eager to help newcomers. you could also use AI for code but be careful because it gives wrong code. you won't believe me but that might actually be better for beginners. I used so much code from chatgpt for my game. it was tiring, always getting wrong code even after you make gpt revise it, over and over again. but, it still gave me a basic template to work on. then I tried fixing the mistakes in the code with just plain english. no coding experience at all lol. then I started actually understanding the concepts in the code, how all the lines are connected, why a single line could break the game. so what I'm getting at is; you actually don't need to know how to code to start. after all, if it still doesn't work with you. just let it go. maybe it's not for you, maybe you're more on the artsy ground. don't forget, game dev is a team job. just have fun with it bro

Perfect! Well, ı need to confirm sth. I was wondering how to downsize a character like this to maintain object and environment ratio without losing details. So one of pixel devs told me ı was looking for vector art or ı can re scale it the character on game engine without losing quality. Because when ı try to scale it on Aseprite it loses some details😢. So how do you think to make it smaller by maintaining this quality. Do you use game engine or vector art? Also there is a chance pixel size won't be consistent.
@MostafaNassar4 ай бұрын
@@Chillopedia1 ah this is a tricky one. Downsizing will always lose quality and details especially in pixel art. Your best bet is to redraw it in the size you want and don't scale in engine.
