This video is incredibly helpful for ALL sports. I do fencing and I've been winning my previous tournaments. In my last one, I did really bad and was extremely frustrated with myself, as well as very disappointed. This video helped me realize why I did good in the tournaments that I won. It's because before those tournaments, I didn't have expectations for myself (those were my first good tournaments). I was fencing for fun, not to win. When I started worrying about my performance, I did relatively worse.

I play in a pool league and mistakes definitely can cause sudden anxiety issues. I've been working my butt off to improve my stroke, position play, decision making, etc., to help stop making costly mistakes. The other night I played a guy in 8-ball, I needed 4 games to win the match, he needed 5. I could really tell that my practice had been paying off. I was playing really well and had him down 3-2, which put me on "the hill" needing only one more game to win the match. I was carefully working my way around the table and finally ended up in perfect position to make the final 8-ball. Well, (I thought) I took my time, went through my pre-shot routine, took two perfect practice strokes and proceeded to miss the pocket completely. My opponent then finally found his stroke (about the time mine was falling apart) and took that game plus the next two to win the match. I didn't play that poorly after that, but he started shooting "lights out" and I never really got the chance to retake control. That one unfocused shot threw him the lifeline he needed to win. Yeah, that hurt so bad I lost sleep that night and was worthless the next day. So, lesson learned, and I'll try to do better next time.

I know that feeling 100%. Bad call, game interruption, opponent moon balling non-stop. Nightmare. Especially when trying to close. Got derailed during tennis matches… Became hyper-focus on outside stimulation which made my game sour… So much, I couldn’t stand being on the court any longer. I was facing my inner dragon 🐉and couldn’t find a way to ignore it at that specific moment. Is that ego? Thanks for sharing this video.

Agreed but before he does that he must have a way to trigger his mind back in the present. And before that being able to get in the right mindset pregame is imperative which then influences mindset in game

How do I get those around me to understand what I’m going through? I often struggle more when my coaches or teammates get frustrated with my wild throws, but I feel silly when I try to explain what’s going on.

Just wanna let you know that your not alone I’m currently going through the same thing I had a breakout Sophomore season and have like 3 college offers going into this junior year and it made me start Stressing a lot because i wanna prove myself and get more offers and stuff and not lose the ones I have this fear has caused me to develop the yips I look like I’ve never played now even though I’ve played my whole life I can’t even throw in warm ups and my main position pitching I can’t throw a Strike it’s like my arm goes numb right before I release the ball but I had to come to terms with the fact that I’m a follower of Christ before a baseball player and that the reason this is happening to me is because I’m idolizing baseball and putting too much pressure over something that won’t matter in 5 years I got 1st Peter 5 -7 put on my glove to so that I remember to cast my anxiety on God and it has helped a lot I won’t lie I’m still going through it and feel discouraged sometimes but I know I’ll get through it and you will to

Thank you. I've been consuming your content on the Spotify platform - took on the challenge to change my way of thinking. Every day spending time on mindfull meditation, and visualization last 5-6 months. Last week I had competiton on national level and ALREADY my scores improved. Thank you for your hard work, for sharing knowledge and showing the way for athletes who seek improvement.
