Short answer: gloves and hand wraps. They protect your hands and allow you to hit hard surfaces as hard as you want to. Not to say that gloves and wraps make mma and modern "bare knuckle" bad.

I always say the same thing for people not using palm strikes, coz they are stupid. Many russians, especially russian bare knuckle fighters think that it's girly to use palm strikes and the person will use it only if he broke his hands.(Facepalm)

Hi! Im from Brasil. My father is from the early Gracie era, he knocked everyone out with slaps on the ear. He never needed to use a grappler, things ended sooner. Ps.: in his time, when conversation failed, people resolved things through fights and everything remained that way, without revenge. Today the country has become very violent and any disagreement can end in death by stabbing or shooting. So, I prefer to legalize disagreements, when possible, or accept the loss and swallow the tears.

Is it legal to palm strike in mma?

I thought this meant a forward, flat palm strike to the chest. On one hand I thought palm striking would be good for something up close like krav maga. You wouldn't have to draw your arm back and a palm strike would let you generate more force over a wider area due to the flat palm. You also have less of a chance of breaking your fingers like with a closed fist punch. That said, I would think a flat palm strike to the sternum might possibly break the wrist because of all that force pushing backward on the hand.

Palm strikes are essentially banned because if you throw one it increases the chance of poking your opponents eyes and refs will yell at you, even if you don't poke their eyes. You can lose points for doing that.
