Those switchbacks you were thinking is Joe's Trail is actually an old two track road on the south side of Ash Canyon just below Bob Thompson's peak. You have to go another canyon south to find Joe's trail.

Thank you! It didn't feel like the same trail as I hiked down. Thx!

What was your motivation for the AZ trail trip?
@lvm34875 күн бұрын
I considered doing a long trail last year, but had a death in the family. Things started to free up in late summer, so I started looking at trails I could do in the fall. I also wanted to get thru-hiking experience in 2024 to get a jump on any hiking I may want to do in 2025.

Binge watched your AZ Trail videos in the past 2 days. Very good. I like how you became much more comfortable vlogging as you came down the trail and your personality started to come through. Very well done!

You should have included some of the people you met. Would have been interesting to see you interview Mary and hear her story.

Yeah, it's tough when you're out there by yourself. Tramily would make it much easier to get that kind of content. Then again, it's a pretty solitary trail. I count about five other thru-hikers that I got close to on this trail.

Southern AZ hill country is beautiful. That (4000 - 5500) ft elevation is a special place!

I don't understand your timing & route on this trip. Why did you leave in December at a high elevation on the Utah/AZ border and hike South? You could have waited a couple of months and started at the Mex/AZ border and went North and had much better temperatures.
@lvm348710 күн бұрын
@@tkinsey472 My hike was October 16 - December 1. Delayed start due to late September heat wave in Arizona. I shot all of the footage before editing after returning home.

Any Ubers in Oracle? And where did you ditch your trash/boxes? Thanks for sharing such a detailed vlog, great stuff
@lvm34878 күн бұрын
@Dora_walking There are Ubers in Oracle, but none offered a ride, so I hitched and got dropped off right at the restaurant. From there I walked all the way to the post office. I should have tried to catch an Uber for that instead. I remember the dumpster behind the Post Office was locked, but an employee was out back and offered to take my trash.

Manzanita is a medium sized bush with red bark and no needles or thorns. It can be found at the Rogers Trough trailhead elevation that you pasted through earlier. You were looking at a type of cholla catus. What is that jacket you are wearing? Looks like a trash bag. Does it hold in perspiration, or does it breathe?
@lvm348714 күн бұрын
@tkinsey472 Ha! Yeah, I call that jacket the Hefty bag. It's a Mont-Bell Tachyon lightweight wind jacket. It weighs under 3 ounces. I think it's the graphite blue version. Other than the color, I really like it. It took a beating on the Arizona Trail, but is still ticking. Thanks for the plant lesson. I was definitely out of my element, but trying.
