"There is something in fishing that produces a gentleness of spirit and a pure serenity of mind." That may be a paraphrase and I can't quite put my finger on the author. It may have been Henry van Dyke or Robert Traver. At any rate, fishing is a great help with anxiety. Glad you've found some peace and I really applaud you for being open about it.

Fished the owyhee for first time last week. Got on a good blue/yellow pmd hatch around 9 am and caught my first brown trout ever, five fish right in a row! The 4th hardly fit the net when I went to land it. Such a rush and beauty of a spot under the canyons just to be; let alone catch a fish! God bless you, Carl

I know this was supposed to be a joke... However I am quite shocked that a company dedicated to wool like Ibex did not actually do this. Or know of its history well enough to think it would make a good joke. I HAVE dog wool (actually dog/ camel blend). Dog fur was the prime source for wools for Native Americans and many many cultures worldwide where camelids and sheep where not, until european "settlers" introduced them. All jokes aside, dog wool is right up there with camel. Merino is purely about the squeaky wheels that find wool itchy. That is not me, so I loathe that tee shirts, underwear and base layers (I only wear wool) are so so short lived. If Ibex made dog wool, I would wear it. If they made shettland underwear, Id wear it. Even core spun, merino still cant give half the wear of the same weight fabric from any other breed. I wish there where non merino base layer alternatives without a homemade option. Or sweatpants/ joggers that where non merino. I wear wool every day, I would love something more durable and affordable. I have a golden doodle. He does look like a sheep... But just one dog wont cut it for even a pair of socks.

Yup, could maybe use worsted wool, but it doesn't stretch. Maybe someone should try knitting worsted fibers (instead of weave) & see how that works.

First to comment!!! It only took 8 years to make it to my recommended list. Nice job making the film, I thoroughly enjoyed it. One question, have you ever saved the ice in the buckets, melted it separately and measure the sugar content? I would think that it would be far less than the sap and you are doing the right thing by tossing it. Many other videos save the ice and I think you are doing it right and reducing boil time. Maybe not a lot but still less boiling.

I can confirm your video is very biased, not factual, and misleading. Nearly all of the Owyhee river corridor in Oregon is protected under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. As a life long climber and boater who loves to kayak and raft the Owyhee and put up rock climbing routes, you do a disservice to the movement by not being factual and actually address the issue which is the upland portion of the Owyhee basin in Oregon is generally not in a permanently protected state, that is the debate, what level of protection should be conferred to the uplands. The statement that the Owyhee is unprotected is entirely false. Most of your video is shots of the river corridor. Nearly all the length of the Owyhee downstream of the Idaho border to the upstream end of Owyhee Reservoir (except for the about 6 miles of agricultural area around Rome) is protected under the Federal Wild and Scenic Rivers act and designated as "Wild" and has been since 1984 and 1988 (depending on segment), which confers a very high level of protection for the river corridor. In Oregon: In 1984, Congress designated 120 miles (193 km) of the Owyhee (mainstem and South Fork), beginning at the Idaho-Oregon border downstream to the Owyhee Reservoir (excluding two short segments). The entire segment is classified as ‘wild.’ In 1988, 9.6 miles of the North Fork Owyhee was designated as wilde from the Oregon-Idaho state line to its confluence with the Owyhee River. In 1988, 57.6 of the West Little Owyhee from its headwaters to its confluence with the Owyhee River was designated as Wild. Crooked Creek is also designated under the Wild and Scenic rivers act. www.rivers.gov/rivers/owyhee-or.php Furthermore, your video shows rock climbing in Leslie Gulch, which was nearly banded for a time and continues to teeter on the edge of being permanently banned. Adding more protection to Leslie Gulch would certainly lead to that sport being banned all together. As a life long climber, I would like to continue to climb in the Owyhees and put up new routes. ONDA would love nothing better than to ban many recreational uses including rock climbing. What is factual, is that a lot of the upland area within the Owyhee River basin is not in some type of highly regulated permanent protected status. To show the river corridor to make this point is misleading.

Well, there is now a new wilderness bill that was agreed upon and is going to congress, which will permanently protect this area for good. As an avid hiker (who is not a rock climber), I am super excited! I've always dreamed of this area receiving wilderness protections.

What you didn't tell folks in your video is that the place you are climbing (Leslie Gulch) is already protected. In fact, so protected you can't put any more bolts in for new routes. And I see you are climbing some of the old routes in the area that Yaniro chipped a bunch of holds a couple decades ago, which is mostly why you can't bolt there anymore. The BLM has talked about removing routes in the Gulch. I assure you if the Owyhee had more federal protection it would be even harder to put up routes in other areas outside of Leslie gulch as well. One climbers thoughts who knows the area intimately and is seeking out new routes outside Leslie Gulch in the Owyhee where such activities are still legal. Your argument for more federal protection to protect climbing is a farce, and is either due to total ignorance of the issues there or purposefully misleading. There are other valid arguments for increased protection, but climbing is not one of them, climbing and new route development will only be further curtailed with increased regulation. The wild owyhee and ONDA folks don't want us out there putting up new routes I can assure you. Don't be a sheep, think for yourself, responsible multiple use (including climbing) doesn't come from the type of protection these groups are proposing.
