honest opinion on casaos: its great for people who arent very technical, but there are WAYYYYY too many problems that lead you down rabbit holes to find solutions. pretty new to proxmox and so far i like it much more (ive used casaos for 1 year for file hosting, minecraft server hosting, weird vm stuff somehow and coding +jellyfin)

Wonder how they maintain the app store security? You know even google play and app store become polluted with malicious apps at some point.

That is a valid concern, I would recommend doing your own research before installing apps.

One thing worth to note is that CasaOS doesn't support raid out of the box but that can be fixed by setting up raid during installation of linux distro so distro will handle raid instead of CasaOS. CasaOS will show you what it sees. If you set your storage in raid Casa sees it as one big ass hardrive. CassaOS need to be installed on top of supported anyway.

@@JCLaforgeTech CasaOS pretty much can do anything any NAS OS can do aside from raid and i already said how to fix it. ZimaOS which is actualy CasaOS at it's core supports raid out of the box but you only get it only preinstalled in ZimaBox i think and it's not free. Anything CasaOS offers can be trusted and anyone from FOSS community who tried it will say the same. If i decide to use CasaOS i will get the docker image but won't deploy it as such, instead i'll turn it into microvm which is much more secure.

The only downside I noticed so far is that umbrel os has its own app store for installing apps. You can't easily add apps at your home screen, for that you need to create your own "community" appstore combining some docker-compose + shell scripts...

I run Umbrel OS on VMware. bridged my NIC between host and guest so it’s on the network as other devices. it’s really cool. i also use CasaOs on ubuntu also running on VMware.

Hi. Cool video! I like CasaOs more, is also very easy and let you install docker apps outside the store. I use it for about 2 years and is been very stable.

Hi. Yes i try it. Very easy to setup and beautiful interface but I prefer CasaOs because is more flexible and let you install docker apps outside the store and have more options to make changes to the configuration of each app in a GUI way. I think both are great.

At around minute 0:20 If you don't what proxmox and CasaOS... I something you definitely need... That is not an explanation at all. I guess you address your video to people who know Proxmox. At around minute 1:25 One now has to request a video on how to get a template? Your install guide is incomplete.

Thank you so much for the video, it's incredibly simple! Yesterday, I tried it with Proxmox, Debian, and Ubuntu. However, I don't have the latest version installed, so I can't access it via the TV app. Is it possible to get access through OpenMediaVault with your method? That's where I have my media stored.

In CasaOS, you'll find many apps in the built-in App Store. For more options, check awesome.casaos.io/content/3rd-party-app-stores/list.html. However, be cautious when using unofficial stores as they may not be vetted for security or compatibility. CasaOS uses Docker, so you can always install apps manually if they're not in the official App Store. This flexibility allows you to add almost any Docker-compatible application, but remember to prioritize safety and only use trusted sources.

I have a questions. On which machine do you have installed proxmox? What are the specifications of that machine? Can you make a detailed video of installing proxmox and setting up like accessing it from different machine and security? Bcoz I have a spare laptop which is not in use, and I was thinking of to store my files, host some my projects and add some extra linux machine virtually on that which will be accessing thtough browser.

I really like CasaOS and I use it not only as a docker dashboard but as a web portal that combines most of my devices on my network. It hasn't been updated for a while now though and it feels the developers of CasaOS is focusing more on ZimaOS instead. I just hope they don't abandon CasaOS. 😔

CosmoOS-Cloud is another home server management system along the lines of CasaOS, Runtipi ect. I have played around with a handful and Cosmos is my prefered personally

I bought a Zimaboard around a year ago, they're an SBC, they do SBC things perfectly fine. CasaOS is just silly though. The concept of single-click installs for self hosting is great, but it's gonna take them another 20 years of development before that's what it actually is. Right now it's a glorified docker host. This is perfectly demonstrated by the fact they have a terminal built into the web ui, you WILL need to use it.
