Sansamp was brighter with a little more grit to my ears (in your test/settings). But let me say- in a live setting, no one including myself would ever hear a difference. I think the HX stomp is the way to go unless you have very minimal pedals.

A body of mine used to search for this exact kind of distortion for so long. He found it in an old Crate amplifier with the overdrive button. It sounded almost identical.

Great video, dude. And for sure - it is WILD how close it is. I play guitar and bass and purchased a Helix LT, but if I was only a bass player, I'd just go HX Effects for the scribble strips and all of the footswitches. A Helix and HX Effects are just overkill for a bass player imo.

The sans amp is awsome but it's a 1 trick pony and that keeps people in the stone age of what's possible in this new world of the plethora of sound the hx1 is a Swiss army knife so I would choose the hx1 for those reasons but the great thing is you don't have to choose because you can combine them by using the actual sans amp as your pre/ di but use the hx1 for all your effects, loops if you do that sort of thing and modulations for a complete pedalboard di rig especially if you fly to alot of gigs also analog used to be the cats meow in the pedal world especially for bass but not really anymore as it just seems like it limits what could be possible in creating sound and atmosphere in music i mean if your a simplistic minimalist the sans alone is great but if you wanna extend your pallet you really want something that's going to give you more options for your coin

That BDDI v1 is perhaps the best pedal under $400. I wish they still made it. Does anyone know if the programmable BDDI is based on the V1 or the V2? I really don't like the V2/VT sounds
@jaribu275815 күн бұрын
I'm very sorry to hear that V1 is out of production. I better take very good care of the one I have. Fortunately, they built like a tank. The programmable (deluxe) came out long before the v2 so, I think it's safe to say it's based on the V1.

I use the SansAmp BDDI v2 with Empress Bass Compressor Blue SPK and Darkglss Microtubes X Ultra for rock/metal recordings with great results, the BDDI is a industry standard in recording for many years. For funk, soul, pop music, hip hop, more melow rock etc., I use the Origin Bassrig Super Vintage combined with Origin Cali76 and Origin DCX. In the past I used the SansAmp BDDI live, but now my ampless Live Rig is: TC PolyTune Mini, Origin Cali76, Origin DCX (clean boost and eq), Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra (only for modern metal) and Origin Super Vintage. I have a massive live sound with this ampless rig (I use Stingray Special 5 HH basses)! In compression section is always a battle between Empress and Cali76, for live I prefer the Cali more colored fuller character, but for me the Empress is better (more clinical, sterile in a good way) in modern metal (nu-metal, djent) combined with Darkglass distorsion.
@Sparksnorthern22 күн бұрын
Is the Darkglass basically functioning as your amp? It's basically the DI or what have you?
@comannorbert22 күн бұрын
@@Sparksnorthern no, I use the Darkglass as a distorsion and the SansAmp is my DI (amp). Yes, I know, I have DI with speaker sim on my Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra, but I don't use that. On my metal pedalboard I have the PolyTune first, then the Empress into the Dakglass and the last is the BDDI.
@Sparksnorthern22 күн бұрын

I was thinking about building a super minimalist pedalboard: bass compressor, graphic eq and Tonex One (I only need two sounds that I can toggle: distortion and clean). Not sure if I would need a DI after the Tonex.
