I was totally torn when Neil replaced Lindsey as they’ve both been among my favorite performers for over 40 years! Happy for Neil but ultimately I refused to go see the Mac without Lindsey, just as I did when he left in ‘87.

It’s well documented that Stevie felt Lindsey mocked her on a tv appearance, then Stevie told Mick she wouldn’t work with Lindsey again. Mick offered Neil the gig. So no, it’s not true that Neil "…took Lindsey Buckinghams (sic) job."

@@Retroearthling I saw it too. Stevie was answering a question and Lindsey appeared to roll his eyes behind her. Stevie saw it later and decided he’d dissed her. It may have been a "straw that broke the camel’s back" incident, but either way she told Mick and Mick decided to fire Lindsey. Therefore Neil did not take Lindsey’s job.

You sound like the kind of guy who’d try and stop your wife from leaving you in 2024 because of that one happy vacation you had back in the ‘70s when you had hair and could fit in a M shirt. You respect Neil as a musician? Mate, check out Neil as a songwriter. By comparison, Lindsey’s been using the same 4 chords and generic licks for 30 years. Music’s not a competition, but Neil writes better songs. I love ‘em both. Bands are dynamic things. Obviously you like your Fleetwood Mac staying on one track. I listened to a fantastic podcast on the history of FM by NZ critic Simon Sweetman. He focused on some early stuff featuring guitarists which I’d never paid attention to, also some of Christie’s songs which I wasn’t familiar with. By your logic, that wasn’t “real” Fleetwood Mac. I’ve just reread your message and I reckon therapy might help. “Only casual fans…” like your opinion is somehow gospel. “..had no business being in Fleetwood Mac”: that’s exactly why they were there: because they’re professional musicians who’ve been involved in the music business for years and know how to get a job done. Maybe some Fleetwood Mac fans are as fucked up as the band members have been? I learnt an interesting thing about Tom Petty and Split Enz the other day on an excellent 8-9 part Split Enz documentary, ‘Enzology’. It turns out Petty got quite Petty when Split Enz was touring with him, apparently as co-headliners, although doing quite well with Canadian audiences, because apparently Petty wasn’t treating the audiences with respect. Apparently on the same gigs, Stevie was there, and Split Enz were told they weren’t even allowed to be in the corridor with her, let alone talk to her. Ha ha. Whilst listening to the penultimate episode, it cracked me up to hear that Eddie Rayner’s keyboard lick in ‘The Devil You Know’ was later duplicated 5 years later by FM in ‘As Long As You Follow’. It’s the kind of standard major pentatonic lick that Buckingham used in 3 of their late ‘80s hits. Anyway, what’s your opinion on The Rolling Stones? Do you think it was right that they stopped Ian Stewart from being on stage for being less pretty than them, in order to realise their classic lineup? Bad Ronnie Wood who had no business joining them? How about RHCP? Stick with the guy sticking needles in his arm because it’s the classic lineup? What about the Miles Davis Quintet from the late 1950’s? What about your favourite sports team?
