Best video on how to install a pre hung. Old schools is a pro.
@benjaminburns22265 күн бұрын
1. Laser a control line, mark on framing. The smallest number is the high point. 2. In a whole house, control lines should all be dialed in to the same elevation. Shim laser as needed. (Tip: if using a ladder, start with the ladder on some plywood shims so if there’s a big hump in the floor somewhere [slab on grade, or an old house etc] you don’t back yourself into a corner needing the laser lower than it can go. 3. With all control lines equal, the highest point in the floor can be determined, and the pre hung jamb height (from the sill/bottom of jamb leg to the underside of the head jamb) can be marked on the framing. 4. The distance between that underside head jamb elevation mark and the control line can be used to make a stick jig cut to that length, which when placed on the control line in any location, allows you to mark a level line for the head casing everywhere. 5. Cut jamb legs to compensate as needed. 6. Using 1/8” - 1/4” plywood shims ripped to 3 1/4” squares, plumb your hinge side top and bottom only, paying special attention that your new RO is at least 1 3/4” wider than your door slab. Tack those shims in place, just below where your head jamb will be, and just above the floor. 7. Don’t shim directly behind hinges, you’ll lose leverage for adjusting your hinge gap. 8. With hallway doors, or doors in acutely aesthetic locations, be sure they stay centered between the walls or other features for even reveals between walls and adjacent features. 9. Install door, and pin the head jamb on both sides with shims (above plywood shim). Tip: wait to remove factory lock set plugs and screws until the assembly is in the opening. Makes it easier to handle. 10. The First Five Fasteners 11. #1 Top of hinge side jamb just under head jamb (shot with 2 15ga nails generally, or trim head screws). 12. #2 Same location, top of strike jamb. 13. #3 Bottom of hinge side, below hinge. Before fastening, close door against strike jamb and be sure the slab is flat against the jamb top to bottom. Adjust hinge side leg in or out a hair if necessary to correct cross leg. 14. #4 Check door against stop, then same location, strike jamb. 15. #5 Long screw (2 1/2 - 3”) through top hinge, in hole closest to the stop. This adjusts the hinge sag gap, sneak up on it, don’t over torque. 16. The Lower Hinge Gap Adjustment Shim - just above the lower hinge, you can tune the gap on the hinge side bottom where you want it. Shim everywhere else to adjust the door reveal, starting on the hinge side and heavily shimming the lock set and deadbolt area on the strike jamb.

OMG, that was DEFINITIVE. I'm a 68 yo engineer that has maybe installed 5 doors in my life. Each time, using my keen engineering mind, I've thought I knew how to account for all out of square conditions... and each time, the door was almost right, but always a bit of a mystery. I don't care how good of an engineer you are, you can't beat this level of experience. Of course, it also takes a curious mind to constantly be willing to try to see if you can do a better job. Major KUDOS to Gary. And, an excellent job of explaining the various issues, tips and tricks.

Your comments at about 51:30 about how the work should be fun are much appreciated. So many people think work should be punitive or you're not really earning your pay. Also, this series has the best instruction about scribing that I have ever seen anywhere.

This is an excellent and very thorough video. I can only add one thing. In my experience, on a miter cut, the blade will tend to pull the workpiece sideways. This is just another reason for bracing against the edge of the fence and pinching the workpiece into it during the cut.

Best new construction flanged window installation tutorial on KZbin. As a former carpenter, it had been too many years since I had installed a window and forgotten a few of the steps, this video makes everything clear and concise. I really feel sorry for anyone who misses this video, I must’ve watched over 100 video clips before I found this one, and I almost can’t believe how many people are misinformed and give the wrong advice..?

I'm wondering if there's a way to rig a portable metal bandsaw to achieve the same results with smaller lumber (for those of us that can't afford this beast or a Mafell). If somebody has tried this, please link a video.

Very nice instructions. Noticed at 4:41 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGTaoI1jf755r9Esi=1jItOLe2P1ppiuBT&t=280) , he misses the mark by maybe 5 mm. Clip. And now everything lines up. I wonder what went wrong.

Same model as yours. I’ve had it about 3 weeks and the belts are starting to fray on the outside of the belts. Any ideas? Otherwise, works great.
@keithwarstler9500Ай бұрын
The belts should not be fraying. I've had mine for over a year and although I only split for myself, it hasn't shown any wear other than the paint on on the wedge and table.

Is wainscoting in multiple rooms too much? I’ve done this is my dining room and I’d like to also have it in my living room to hide imperfections on the walls and tie into a fireplace mantle, but I’m being told it’s too much and would make the house look unappealing. Thoughts?
