Thank you for sharing how you’re feeling. It’s so common to feel overwhelmed by the constant stream of news-it can feel like there’s always something to worry about. One thing that can help is setting boundaries around how much news you consume and creating space for activities that ground you, like a walk outside or even practicing mindfulness. Stress can be a tough cycle, but small steps toward balance can make a big difference.

Hey, sounds like you have had a really hard time. OCD likes to create connections where they don’t really exist. But from what you’re describing it sounds like you have experienced some big challenges. I hope you can find some support so that you can work through the challenges you’re experiencing. All the best.

Great insights! If social media ultimately drops our dopamine levels, it stands to reason that it could make OCD worse in areas even away from the computer? Fascinating...kind of like being in dopamine withdrawal?
@theocdandanxetypodcast16 күн бұрын
Hi Michael, yes this may well be the case, where it becomes more difficult to find pleasure in activities that you previously found pleasurable. This is the dopamine trap at work. It’s ok to seek dopamine, but you’re better off looking for the type that comes from sustained persist of values or purpose as this creates dopamine too, but more in the long term, rather than looking for short term fixes of it. What’s your thoughts?

@@theocdandanxetypodcast Seems our brains are set up for reasonable levels of stimulation, just not this hyper-stimulatory stuff...I did a TV fast about 20 years ago that was very good for my spiritual health as well! I find that the very same material read, is often better for you than watched...so it is not the content, but rather the stimulatory nature of the delivery system...again, fascinating. How many folks are suffering from this without knowledge of the dangers? Thanks for this sobering content...

When someone says "relax," they aren't just saying "immediately turn off your anxiety and become calm," they're almost always saying the implied "take a moment, clear your head and maybe take a few deep breaths to calm your nerves."
@theocdandanxetypodcastАй бұрын
Thanks for your comment! I totally get that advice like ‘just relax’ often comes from a caring place, encouraging someone to pause or take a breather. For those with OCD, though, it’s rarely that simple-our thoughts can feel overwhelming and hard to let go of on command. Sometimes, more tailored support can be helpful. I really appreciate your perspective; it’s a reminder that good intentions are behind so much advice like this. Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks for your feedback! I can see how this advice might sound like 'just don't' on the surface, but the message here is actually about observing thoughts without engaging. This approach has been helpful for me personally, and it's based on techniques that support OCD management through awareness and acceptance. It’s about creating a healthier relationship with thoughts, rather than dismissing or avoiding them. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts, I know everyone’s journey with OCD is unique, and I’m here to offer what’s helped me along the way.
@Ch0rr1sАй бұрын
So basically the advice is to "just don't". I'm afraid that only works if you have already ground to stand. Its basically the same as saying " just don't be sad" to a depressed person, isn't it?

Was reading Joseph Campbell just this morning and was set aback by Campbells breakdown of Sumerian Godess Innanas voyage into the underworld (a classic and ancient, maybe the first telling of the heroes journey). She is stripped of her heavenly things and told to not question the rites of the netherworld. Campbell says you must put aside your pride and virtue and submit to the intolerable. I assume it’s a form of acceptance of the circumstances. He doesn’t mean to say succumb to it, but rather recognize it and reconcile it lest it grow in a dark corner outside you somewhere.
@theocdandanxetypodcast3 ай бұрын
Yes exactly, it's a shame that the netherworld can be so unyielding like this, but when we accept the challenge and start practicing acceptance, it's amazing how the challenge can be transformed.

@theocdandanxetypodcast7 ай бұрын
It's hard to say exactly, managing anxiety involves more than just doing one thing. If you are doing cold exposure in a safe and positive way, it could support you, but it isn't going to solve everything on its own. Ideally you would be working with someone to change behaviours, learn about CBT etc.
