Its easier to cut the log up right there after it dries for a bit and then dump it right in the woodshed. I dont even stack it these days. It dries undercover. I cut mostly beech. Its a skanky tree and most are diseased.

@@fireflyfarmatburkehollow3433 if ya were going to build it again what would you do differently? How many taps you think this size of sugar shack is good up to?
@fireflyfarmatburkehollow3433

@@chrisinwood9041 Thanks for watching. We are in the middle of boiling now and just finished our first good run of the season, hoping for a couple more. We are running 250 taps and tend to boil about 190 gallons in a session. The size of the sugar house is just right, unless you plan on having lots of visitors. The one thing that I would do different is move the cupola closer to the chimney so that it is more centered over the pans. Happy boiling.

I built a greenhouse with a cold frame in it and just installed a 440ah battery bank in it with solar panels to run led lights, for growing arugula in winter, in Ontario Canada. I don't want to run the heat in it in the winter, so not sure if arugula would grow in similar temps that you have without additional heat. My cold frame fluctuates from 80F on a sunny day to 32F at night without any electric heat provided. Do you think it would be warm enough in the winter in my cold frame to grow arugula, with only added electrical lights?
@fireflyfarmatburkehollow3433
@fireflyfarmatburkehollow3433 3 жыл бұрын
I would be concerned about germination rate at the low temp, but once its germinated it could tolerate a little cold. One reference states that Arugula will germinate down to 40F. The LED lights that I am using give off a little heat and on really cold nights I cover the frame with a blanket. Never hurts to try it out and see what happens. Good luck. Thanks for watching.

What size are the pipe fittings you used to screw into the barrel lid? Are they copper or brass
@fireflyfarmatburkehollow3433

The pipe coming out is screwed into the barrel plug and is 1 inch iron pipe. You do want your stock to be someone dry or the pipe can get plugged with a creosote like liquid. Thanks for watching.

We did have some plans for the green house drawn up on graph paper, but the table design was to fit the space. I looked at buying pre made plastic table tops but between the plastic and the cost, the lobster cage was a better choice for us. The dimensions of the tables are to fit the standard 1020 seed trays. Let me know if you want more details. Thanks for watching.
