I'm starting a hospital care coordinator/rn case manager position in 2 weeks and i was worried bc I have a lot of experience in various places (ltac/rehab nurse supervisor, neuro icu step down, mother/baby, school nurse, home health nurse assessor/pca sup managing a caseload but not hands on) that's the order over 8 yrs... but my most recent work experiences dont seem to set me up for this type of work so I am nervous bc I haven't been in a hospital setting or hands on nurse in nearly 4 yrs. Any advice?
@workitmom2 ай бұрын
@@cgray033088 Hello! I think you will do great! Your more experienced then I was when I started case management and I had also been out of the hospital/floor nurse setting for about 4 years. I honestly don’t think being away from that setting really matters because case management is completely different than working on the floor. The only thing that is the same is the acuity of the patients. My advice is have a way to organize all the resources and information you will get because it’s a lot and you want to be able to reference it later. Always advocate for your patients. The hospital is all about length of stay and sometimes you are your patients only advocate when it comes to a safe discharge. Don’t let the battle with insurance companies bring you down! Finally, ask for help when you need it and always be willing to help others. Good luck at your new job 🤗

Hi workitmom! How long have you been an RN and what is your experience like? I’m also an RN, looking to get into case management😊
@workitmom3 ай бұрын
Hello 🤗 I have been a nurse for 10 years now. Started off working in a hospital as a floor nurse. Quickly realized that was not for me. Next job was in home health which I loved. Once I left there I work in an outpatient office and case managed 1x/week for a podiatrist at that office. That job is the one that opened up my interest in case management even tho it was so different then what I’m doing now. My next job was in case management in the hospital ✨What are you doing now? Case management is great and there are many different options to do it.

@@workitmomwow thanks for responding so fast! Ive been an RN for 3 1/2 years. I've done clinic work the whole time, most recently as a Nurse Care Mananger and actually just accepted an offer today for RN case management in the hospital🎉Super excited but nervous. Any tips?
@workitmom3 ай бұрын
@@erica7531 Congratulations 🎉 my tips would include remember you are one of the patients biggest advocates and you have a lot of input even if people make you feel like you don’t. The hospital is a numbers game whether that be length of stay or revenue and sometimes case manager have to be their patients biggest advocate. Another tip, leave on time as much as possible! Case management could be a 24hr job, easily. There needs to be a time of day that it ends. You need to worry about yourself before best caring for others 💞
