Yes Sir! As kids we rode our bikes to the Boise,Idaho airport & spent Sunday P.M. time watching WestCoast airlines -( Later Hughes Airwest) F-27's! Start cart plugged in & Crank em up! i will never forget the loud chirpping as well as the shrill ear splitting sound of those Rolls Royce dart engines! fire & flames that were seen momentarily in the really cool Bologna cut exhaust pipe! The F-27 roared to life & as it departed the gate a very strong prop wash kicked up any FOD that was on the tarmac as it left it gate taxing towards to runway! This was before WestCoast or Hughes Airwest DC-9 jet service to Boise. What a treat! Glad i was there! We also enjoyed West Coast DC-3's & United airlines DC-6's as well! A true smorgasbord of the last of the prop jobs!❤🎉

Such an iconic scream! I was lucky enough to fly in Viscounts (Cambrian and Aer Lingus), an HS748 (Dan-Air) and holiday charters on HP Heralds and F27’s back in the day.

I would, but I left that organization back in 2017 and those planes were retired shortly after. Replaced with Dash-8s. The old Fokkers are either in the scrap yard or on sticks as a display somewhere.

I hear it 24hrs a day, every day. It wasn't all her fault though, the damage started in CENTCOM '04-'07. The dart just fine tuned the pitch.

I was never around an F27, but was around hundreds of YS-11s starts, and even inside, that spoiling sound is unique. Much the uniqueness of a Spey engine start on a BAC-111. Very nice.

Brings back memories! Aloha Airlines in Hawaii flew 3 Vickers Viscounts with 4 Darts apiece. Back then you walked across the ramp to get on your plane. Hawaiian Airlines flew the Convair 340 and 440 with two Darts. The Viscounts were, with their 4 Darts turning, absolutely piercing. I was used to hearing DC-8s and 707s leaving the ramp but they were nothing compared to the Viscount.

The only engine close to the DART sound is the Garrett TPE331 on an MU-2 or Rockwell 690.

Worked for PI in ATL for a couple years and they operated the Martin 404 & F-27. Both were okay for their time and the F-27 had a surprisingly nice ride and the view out those windows was great.

Air New Zealand had them from about the 1960,s til 1990. when the Airline NAC purchased them at the time and after the merger of NAC/Air New Zealand. I can remember putting my hands over my ears when they started up.

Love those little old airliners. I remember flying on one during a night thunderstorm & how it struggled valiantly tossing and bouncing through the storm to get above the clouds. The lightning put on a hell of a show & the rain ran horizontally across the little round windows. I was a terrified 7 year old bush kid. Fortunately I was with my loving Dad. If he was scared he didn't show it & was a very reassuring presence. We entered the blind chaos of cloud & lighting & eventually rose above it into a beautiful moonlight night. I'm 54 now & thankfully my old dad is still with me. Him & Mum been there for me in dark scary times. I never forgot his kindness that night & will hopefully be able to repay it by reassuring & looking after him & mum as they face the fear of aging. I can almost smell those screaming engines.
