I am from the Nias Tribe, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The culture of the tribes in Taiwan is very similar to the culture of the Nias tribe in North Sumatra Indonesia, especially in traditional dances and women who are about to get married being lifted on palanquins by several people and pounding rice using pestles, ancient statues and megalithic statues and many other things.

Tks for reminding us of the sufferings of immigrants in Singapore. This was taught in our history books n 80s dramas depicted the horror of opium addiction. ❤

If you want coffee with milk but no sugar. Order Kopi Si Kosong Coffee with everprated milk without sugar However Kopi Si normally available in Chinese or India Muslim shop. Malay seldom sell Kopi Si,. Kopi Si less sugar if you do not want it too sweet.

Oh what a shame you missed cycling the east coast! There is actually a very nice bike path along the east coast of Georgetown that starts at Karpal Singh Drive all the way until second Penang bridge. It's a dedicated, flat bike path, away from the heavy traffic which takes you through seaside views, a small fishing village beneath the first Penang Bridge, helical ramp near Queensbay mall, and some pockets of small parks along the way.

How much to pay for getting Brompton into malaysia?
@AsiaHikelopedia
@AsiaHikelopedia 3 күн бұрын
I paid for 20kg luggage on Scoot, so I could take Brompton (~12kg) plus some of my clothes, etc. It was more than enough.

You Brompton- cycled on that up/down hilly, winding road into Balik Pulau! And then went on the narrow, winding stretch from Batu Ferringhi to George Town! I am impressed! I drove there Aug ‘24… carefully.

It wasn't that hot so wasn't that bad. Also the road is quite wide. Plus, I'm used to riding in Taiwan traffic, which is way worse than Penang.

Its a well known topic to us locals and why we still have extremely harsh penalties for drug trafficking and possession. This is especially true the golden triangle of drug production so close to Singapore. Even in the 2010s, drug smugglers still love to use Singapore as a center for drug export. We can never let that happen happen and have Singapore regress to what it once was.

The British East India Company actively encouraged the growing of opium in India for export. It farmed opium out to international private traders who were licensed by the company to take goods from India to China and parts of Asia. Opium dens were prevalent throughout the Chinese diaspora - I've seen records of them in chinese enclaves in California in the 1920s.

history is always written in the perspective of the victors, while what you said might be one perspective of the historical text sometimes i wonder how would it sound like from the other perspective. perhaps it might be that the locals were exploited by the British, cheated of their land, then the brit fortify their conquered regions, solidified their ground and oppressed the locals? wonder how would that look from the victors point of view
@AsiaHikelopedia
@AsiaHikelopedia 5 күн бұрын
I have no doubt that locals were exploited by the British, and the historical sources are definitely skewed. It would be great if we could get the other side of the story for sure!

Interesting historical items from Penang: In WW I the german cruiser Emden (with fake smoke stack to look like a british cruiser) entered the harbour beside Ft Cornwallis, sank a Russian cruiser, and a french destroyer on the way out. Russian sailors are buried in Penang, cemetary monument has one of the anchors. Same cemetary has graves from the malayan emergency too.
