I have a question. How come the beginning of the third millennium and 21st century was celebrated on January 1, 2000, instead of January 1, 2001? The 21st century and third millennium actually begun on January 1, 2001, instead of January 1, 2000. It's a common misconception that people have about the 21st century and third millennium. There's was no year zero in the Gregorian Calendar. Here's an example. Years 1 to 1000 = first millennium and 10th century Years 1001 to 2000 = second millennium and 20th century Years 2001 to 3000 = third millennium and 30th century
