Beautiful car, but I just hate the bumpers in 72 all that black trim ruins it. Love 1970 better.

Saw one of these in the back of a used car lot back in the late eighties. Floors and lower body were pretty much gone and the radiator and carb were missing. Asking price was $1200.00 which (unfamiliar with the rarity) seemed ridiculous at the time . If only I'd known better...👍🏁

1200.00 dollars was a lot of money back then. You were only being sensible at that time.

As a technical / vocational school student ( college was too strong a word in the rural North Carolina of 1975)I ran a lot of back roads around Whiteville during lunch break and on weekends- one day, here was this '62 Box Top, fender flagged as a 406 car ; fair paint, not beat up, with $400 on the windshield in shoe polish .......sketchy neighborhood for a skinny kid with empty pockets to be poking around in - end of that story and car.

(1) Ford got forced to come out with a "63 1/2" roofline after this one flubbed (2) never was as elegant as the '60 Starliner (3) the 406 was a great but overlooked motor.

I had one back in the 70’s. Jacked up , built 289 , canary yellow. It outran some bigger motors too. Headers, cherry bomb mufflers , the cops loved stopping me when they could catch me. I wish I had it back. Good Ole Days

Interesting, I can see a bit of the Falcon elements in the design. I didn't know the American Fairlane was at one point based on the Falcons. It was the case for around 50 years here in Australia.

My first newer car was a 1963 Fairlane Sport Coupe with a 289 hypo engine and T-85 overdrive transmission and 9 inch rear axle with 4.11 ratio. It was a prototype for the 1963 289 hypo program and bought from the Ford Motor Company's used car lot. I worked in the Ford Experimental Garage at the time on Fairlane and Comet programs. The car ran in the low 14s in the quarter mile and got 19 mpg with that overdrive. Love that hypo engine tappet sound and the lumpy idle. Had a lot of fun with that car. I'm was my daily driver and family vehicle. My second car was a 1958 ford station wagon with a 289 hypo FMX automatic and 3.89 axle.
