There must be something to at least some of the aikido techniques. In the 19th century there were certainly school vs school fights, and so Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu has to have an idea of what parts worked and what parts didn’t. Judo, of course, was an attempt to strip out the jujutsu techniques that didn’t work (which I presume were held onto solely because it would be an embarrassment to drop half the techniques passed down in a school, and judo didn’t claim a lineage so it didn’t matter). So judo’s history implies that techniques didn’t work. It could be that aikido is only the techniques excluded because they never worked, but I would think that at least one could be used.

This was actually painful to watch as getting to a 2nd Dan Myself in Aikido as a 20 year Old I know how much dedication there has to be but the truth is when the pressure is on it is very difficult to implement without some striking or or Judo type techniques to set up application. I respect the fact that it is at least being pressure tested to some degree in these competitoins and it will probably force some meaningful development.

Scoring system is the same as Judo. Plus you get a point for a knife strike. Knife strike has to be direct from the knee/hip and straight. A technique should be on the body *(not grabbing the clothes like Judo). He scores a knife strike @ 3.24 and then a few more after that. You don't often see a technique scored in a final.
