Great series. Having read the book first, I just wish they modeled the monster more like it. It was bigger, featured a very long neck and was walking more like a bidedal creature.

mr hickey had learned that inuit shamans would become handlers of the Tuunbaq in a ritual that included cutting off their own tongue, so he made a desperate gesture to try and come out alive. Alas, he could not fool the beast. The beast dies because it had grown weak by eating men who had gotten lead poisoning from badly soldered ration tin cans, and also by sustaining gunshot, fire and explosive wounds over time. Choking on Mr Hickey was the last straw.

At this point of the story, two sides have been formed. The bad side, lead bythe man who cut offhis tongue , has turned into cannibalism. Earlier that day, they ate a good doctor who, knowing he was going to be next, drank poison to make sure that upon consuming his flesh, those guys would die later as well. However the creature ate some of them first, thus poisoning itself in the process. The tongue this is, for me, what makes this serie so great. These colonizers don't know anything about this land and its legends. All they know is that it is not christian. So he thought of inventing a ritual, pagan and weird, thinking he understood something in his delusion. He literally made it up on the spot, because for him any weird blood sacrifice should do. And of couse Tuunbaq doesn't get this shit either and kills him. This is the heart of The Terror, the white arrogance to think that nothing greater preceeds them. They are the pagans, that what isn't what they know can be made on the spot, as they feel a non-christian ritual would look like.
