So we want the bearing nut to only be finger tight and we’re not twisting it with our finger as tight as we possibly can. We’re just getting it snug?
@HandymanSam
@HandymanSam 2 ай бұрын
It should first be torqued down to spec, then backed off, then tightened back with fingers until snug. Torquing down “sets” the bearing, then snugging down keeps it in place in addition to the retaining nut and cotter pin. Watch again at 5:10 mark.

Thank you so much. My truck had been sitting for about 6 months and I decided to get it back up and going. I noticed some corrosion on my positive terminal and sure enough it doesn’t crank and I have to jump it. I go to the store and need a jump but this time I’m idling at +2000 and I’m certain this is the problem. Thank you!

Handy man Sam, yesterday I went to start my plow pickup. Battery very weak, corrosion on both terminals. I jump started it and plowed with the idle at close to 2000 rpm. Hard on linkage and transmission. Watched your video and decided the battery needed cleaned up anyway. Wow! Running great again with idle back at 800 rpm. Must be a low battery charge sensor stepping up the idle when the battery is too corroded to take a charge. Thanks much for the video. ME

just did this on my 1997 Saturn SL2 and may i say that bottom clip on the filter can be a pain in the ass if you don't have a good visual once i jacked up the car it took about 10 seconds to unclip. Just for someone like me who thinks they can get away with it without jacking the car up and wasting an hour trying not to break a line or something GREAT VIDEO

Did yours run rough after you installed them? I did mine and now it runs rough like somethings up with the valves...
@HandymanSam

I did notice halfway through the job that one of the valves was a bit burnt. I didn’t have the ability to remove the head and replace (nor did I want to), but the new seals helped reduce oil consumption at least a little.

I just went to a few stores - 2 automotive and 2 home improvement stores hoping to find a socket that size, shape and hole in it but found nothing that was exactly the same. So, where can I finally socket that allow me to loosen it with a screwdriver?
@HandymanSam
@HandymanSam 10 ай бұрын
Here’s where I got the one I use: a.co/d/b5eVKtb It doesn’t have a hole for a screwdriver, but it’s a shallow, low profile socket that works with my regular ratchet just fine.

It really sucks when you replace the crank sensor that only the after market makes out of chinesium these days and between 1-3 days later the truck starts pinging and bucking like crazy and dies again, and three crank sensors later you just decide to say screw this and convert it to 4 barrel carb and a points distributor, only using the computer for gauges because no inspection in your state and its your only solution. Im an automotive electrical guy and it boggled the crap out of my mind because I could find nothing wrong with the wiring or computer when i refused to believe I could possibly get that many crap sensors right out of the box. The 5 speed version of the truck uses a different crank sensor than the automatic and is rare and discontinued by dodge. Was running good for a couple weeks converted to carb but then the cat plugged up on me lol Eh... at least after i open it up and gut it and weld it shut again I can finally have a nice running fully restored 97 dodge pickup. It turned out nice all things considered but dude... I would have rather just been able to put a non chinesium crank sensor in it and call it done.
@thegrey8643
@thegrey8643 7 ай бұрын
@Iknowaboutroaches3350 Depending on the year it is, and it sounds like its the right generation, it wouldnt be hard to convert to carb, like I did with my '97 ram 1500. I kept getting dead crank sensors and couldnt figure out why they kept going out and couldnt find an aftermarket on. Im an automotive electrician I had all the equipment to test the computer, harness, everything. All I could figure is that the aftermarket sensors were made for a 5v ref and Chrysler uses an 8v reference for its magnetic pickups.
@thegrey8643
@thegrey8643 7 ай бұрын
@Iknowaboutroaches3350Just needs some professional diagnostics with pro level equipment to be sure. Im one of those technicians that refuses to play darts/load the parts cannon, I always investigate. It is possible that a faulty spark plug that was dropped could cause such an issue however. if you saw the arm of the sparkplug bent to the side chances are that one got dropped.

Your instructions seem pretty straight forward but I'm stuck on step 1, I tried with all my might to pull the connector off, it wouldn't budge. I tried for half hour with no luck, it started getting dark, will try again tomorrow. I feel like being a girl I have no grip strength doing this and I don't want to break something :( This is a 2001 Solara, first time trying to replace the headlight bulbs. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
@ideallife2day
@ideallife2day 11 ай бұрын
I did it :D I had to use a small pair of vice grips to grab and wiggle it loose finally, it was on there really tight. Then the rest of the process is simple. Only had minor issue with plugging it back up and used a small flathead screwdriver to pry away the rubber boot next to the area for the 3 prongs to fit back. Both took me about 30 minutes to complete and that's with taking my battery completely out. Yay!

What do you meAn let the break system breath!! That's the last thing you want in the break system AIR!. . . please don't misinformed people.
@HandymanSam
@HandymanSam Жыл бұрын
I’m not misinforming people. In order to compress the pistons for new brake pads, you have to allow some way for any fluid/air displacement to occur, or else you’ll never be able to get new pads in. This was the reason for taking the reservoir cap off- to let the system breath/release pressure.

please tell me you didnt take out the tranny and exhaust to do this . hahaha i watched one where the guy took out his wheel well and tire to try and reach it but couldnt. sorry im in tears cause im as skinny as u guys and it took ten minutes sitting on the engine . so what im looking for is if anyone had to adjust or relearn the sensor after install.dodge told me it had to be adjusted , but i think he is lying cause it is a solid bracket , no adjustment bolt or spacers. idk .truck still dead.
@HandymanSam
@HandymanSam Жыл бұрын
No, haha, I was just showing a clearer view of it while doing a transmission rebuild. I knew many folks would probably desire a clearer view of where it is exactly, so I took the opportunity to do that. No adjustment on the sensor is needed, just be sure you don’t settle for a cheap one. They’ll only last for a year.
