- As always, joy to watch. I also like the narration and would be nice to hear these in your future vids. - I hope the plans for the Sunseeker Duo is available for public or for purchase, as many would benefit from the added safety and possibilities of electric+solar powered flights. - For some reason, I thought that you are based and live in Switzerland. - Do I hear it right, that flight controllers on the radio speak Italian? If yes, they are only for the airfield you operate from? I thought all ATCs are supposed to be in English.

Nice video again! Comments are a good addition! Some time ago you offered a kind of demonstration flight with duo - ist it still possible?

Yes, if you can make your way to the Gemona, Italy area, I can take you for a flight. Weight limit 100 kg. Best months June, July, August.

I’ve followed the Sunseeker Duo since your first video. Two questions: are there any Sunseeker Duos in the US, and where can I find that guitar music? Thanks.

I only built one, and it here in Italy. The music is Nothing Else Matters from Metallica. Great song!

I can hardly believe that you don't know that song from Metallica. It's kind of part of the "great music history"... similarly to the Smoke On The Water. :o)

Amazing flight and great footage! Just curious, Why go looking for lift, when you have solar and motor? Could you in theory just keep slowly climbing into the stratosphere? of course oxygen would be a problem for the pilots.. just curious as to performance with solar alone. Thx for posting. Very inspiring.
@Solar-flight8 күн бұрын
Well, the short answer is, soaring is a sport where as motor flight is just driving around, rather boring. Going too high can be dangerous if you have a problem with the oxygen system.

I flew the Duo Discus that same day from Enemonzo. The ridge east of Rivoli was a lot of fun. Very interesting to me is the point in which you caught the wave, just east of the Amariana, because right there, down under the clouds (around 1400 to 1900m), we also found a very long lift also about 1m/s strong.
@Solar-flight8 күн бұрын
Interesting, thanks for writing! I tried again yesterday, May 26, but the wave up high was very inconsistant. At first I tried to go to the Dolomites under the clouds, but it was very turbulent and I got rained on. Over the clouds it was at least smooth and sunny. Above really big clouds I am worried about getting hit by lightning. I had a close bolt of lightning once above the clouds. Strange but true.

Please tell me - what type of solar cells are used in this aircraft and what is their efficiency?
@Solar-flight7 күн бұрын
SunPower, now called Maxeon. Mono crystalline. About 22% efficient. They have 24% available now.

@@Solar-flight Thank you for your reply! Flying this plane in good ideal weather has a positive (solar panels not only ensure flight, but also charge the battery) or negative (Solar panels are not enough to ensure flight and the battery is discharged) power balance? Or should you make the most of the "thermals/dynamics flows"? Is it possible to survive a "night flight" without landing on this plane when there is no Sun (at least a short night in summer) and continue the flight the next day?

Are there enough power from solar panels to charge the batteries during the flight, or do you have to charge additionally from the grid in the hangar?

Bryan, Most of the footage in the cockpit is from a GoPro 11 on a gimbal. In post production I stabilized it further and took out some of the fish-eye effect by cropping in some, using GyroFlow software.
