You’re killin’ it, man! Love that you can see Purple and ELP and Journey and Gary Numan and Rush and all these other bands as a continuum, and dig playing all of it.

Love it! My band used to do this song. I used an actual Hammond A100, so there was no sustain pedal. We solved the warping synth note issue by having the singer use a Kurzweil Expressionmate ribbon controller to trigger and modulate that note (the Expressionmate ribbon also comes in handy for Keith Emerson fun).

Very good rendition. Good work! I’m doing ‘Gates’ on a Yamaha CK61 and Alesis QS7.1. Your ‘ahhhh’ voices (Bm > G > Am) are more convincing… but the CK61 does a very good job on the Minimoog intro. I used to do that intro on a Roland JP8000, but there’s (somewhat surprisingly) less aliasing on the Yamaha. Interestingly, the ‘bubbling’ as the main riff kicks in after the keyboard intro is a Clavinet. No need to play that live though.

A quick followup: I’m pretty well versed in ‘modern’ jazz harmony including tritone subs and backdoor dominants and Barry Harris etc, and I cannot find any path there to explain the first four chords of the second half of the guitar solo. Starting at the end, they resolve to E major. Major chords as a resolution are common of course. But C minor > D major > Bb major? With no 13ths, 11ths, 9ths or even 7ths? No stacked fourths? Just plain ol’ triads? With tension ratcheting sky high all through, and then clearly resolving on E major? Since when is Bb Major a tension chord? Even the mystical Coltrane circle offers no help. This truly is genius harmony.

On the sign of the times part, stack some mellotron flutes with the piano for a more authentic sound.

Bravissimo veramente. Alle tastiere, ha una indipendenza ottima. Il gioco di sintetizzatori è perfetta. Complimenti. Saluti.

AWESOME ! Double Dimple and Spartacus were their best IMO. I just wish I was able to see them live back in the day. I can’t believe there’s not more live videos of them !

Outstanding cover. Great playing, great sound & great mix. Where can I get a T-shirt like the one you're wearing? Saw them open for ELO in New Jersey. They blew the room away.
