They do, but they provide their explanation through analogy, metaphor, etc. in hopes that those who have figured out the trick (i.e. the performer) understand, and those who haven't don't. It's very rude and unprofessional to spoil someone else's work.

They drop coded hints that make sense to the contestants, but don't spoil the tricks to the audience.

I promise that 2 was Teller's actual free choice.

It's part of the act that he doesn't talk when they're performing (which includes most TV interviews). It's a trademark that singles them out and also helps with the tricks as the entire audience is watching the loud one while it's actually the silent one doing the business. If you hunt around you can find times when he's not trying to play the part and talks at great length. Several years ago (well before Fool Us existed) the pair did a TV series where they visited countries such as China, India and Egypt looking at all the traditional street magicians and as usual Penn did all the talking and Teller was silent. Then there's a sequence in the Egypt program where Teller talks directly to the camera in a darkened hotel room and is visibly excited. So excited in fact that he's felt the need to break character and talk to the camera. The reason he's excited is a performance of cups and balls he's just seen from a local performed. Teller is one of the world's best cups and balls magicians so he explains how he was able to follow every move, every sleight of hand in the performance until the big reveal when he found he had been completely fooled: the performer knew he was performing for an expert and every move he made was fake and Teller completely fell for it. It was one expert performer gobsmacked by another expert that made him break his silence (and I suspect was at least the germ of an idea for a TV series many years later). So yes, search around and you'll find Teller talking about magic and magicians but you won't find him talking while performing.
