The funny thing is that "Holanďani" is actually pronounced with "ň" before "ď", even thought there is no "háček" above the letter nor "i" after that. And that's because it would be very difficult to pronounce that with a hard "n" followed by soft "ď".

Ladislav, this video is of great quality. This is the video form of most utility. No much dynamic, music, you even made your camera black and white to put focus on the paper. Your speech both in English and Czech is so clear to understand and you truly made basic pronunciation simple and that can easily be learned.

I’m a 3rd generation American from Bohemian immigrants. I was hoping Czech would be easy after reading the comments. Ne! Vowels I understand but ch, c, & j not so easy. I’ll have to memorize those sounds and practice. Thank you for sharing your time teaching beginners the Czech language.

Example: French Bon Jour - morning Bon Soir - afternoon Bonne Nuit - Night English Good morning Good Afternoon Good Night... Have Czech, Greetings for the afternoon? Or? Use... Ahoj? Is correct? By the way, Have you known that it was a great Czech Soccer Player, "Masopust"? He played in "Uda Dukla" Soccer team!!! And he played with Czechoslovakia Team in Chile 62, World Cup!!! The final! Against Brazil? 😮 The "Uda Dukla" Came to México, to played into a Special Mexican Soccer Cup! And "Masopust" Got admiration of the Mexican Fans!!! Great Player!!! 😮😊 Now, Another "Masopust"... Is teaching Czech!!! Life has Coincidences 😮😊😂

Oh my God, why didn't I discover the language earlier..?:) I'm Polish, I learned German, English and French and tried to learn Portuguese, Italian and Chinese, the last three without success... :) The Czech language was too close to Polish for me and therefore uninteresting… I've been to the Czech Republic many, manyl times..., Prague, Brno, Znajm Mikilov, Karlove Vary, Marien Bad, Lednice, Valdice etc... and unfortunately I was always able to get by with my Polish.... The idea to venture into the language of my neighbors came to me yesterday... :) and I found your KZbin channel, which I like and which gives me hope to catch up a little on what I've neglected for many years...:) The most important thing is that Czech is enough complicated even for Poles and therefore very interesting...! Thank you very much! May the Czech language bring joy to all who discover it !

I always thought the "hook" was generally called a háček regardless of the letter it accompanies. Does e s háčkem mean it's specific to the e (or ě) only? Thanks I just learned today that the old English word "haca" means the same thing :)

Hi thank you for your excellent video, it really helped clarified things a lot. I do have a (perhaps silly) question though, what if I'm addressing a group of people whom I just know? I'm assuming in present tense, that will still be: mluvite česky and in past tense, it will be mluvili jste česky (mixed or male groups) mluvily jste česky (female only group)

Hello, what's the difference between "Ďe" and "Dě" ? Does "Ďe" exist in Czech ?
@ladislavmasopust90177 ай бұрын
Good question! ĎE, ŤE, ŇE do not exist in Czech. The hook is always over E in these combinations, so it's always DĚ, TĚ, NĚ.

"Reading is very simple in Czech" Ahh yes, and "strč prst skrz krk" is famously very simple to read, you just have to invent the sound of the nonexistent vowels in your mind as you read it...

Yes, spelling and reading in Czech can be really easy when you realize that most of the words look like their phonetic transcriptions when written down :)

It is not easy to pronounce the letter "Ř", it's the peculiarity of the Czech language and after this consonant you immediately realize that someone isn't a native Czech speaker. Even the Slovaks, who speak a language similar to Czech, do not completely manage to say "Ř" correctly, pronouncing approximately Rž. And YES, some Czech children go to a logopedist for this "Ř"!
@ladislavmasopust90178 ай бұрын
That is true, it really is not easy to master the sound, and it is sometimes quite noticeable in Slovak speakers who speak Czech. However, I also know a lot of native Slovaks who have perfect Ř and also some non-slavic speakers who learnt it perfectly, like Mickey ;)
@LaszloVondracsek7 ай бұрын
@@ladislavmasopust9017 No tak, v tomto pripade gratulujme Mickeymu! Ja kdyz jsem byl maly kluk, chodil jsem k logopedovi pro ten "Ř"!!!
