If you're hoping to play Irish flute or whistle and you want a brilliant tutor, then you should look no further! 🎶

Nice, this is one I want to learn on my Uilleann half set, but always difficult to find it played slow. Learning on the whistle has been helpful. Thanks for sharing.

I've been learning this tune for playing in sessions some day (with #1 and #3). I didn't know the V was used for breaths/breaks. Thank you.

Beautiful! I am waiting for my new Killarney brass A whistle to arrive and wanted to hear it played. B flat is not far off an A 😊 Thankyou, your playing is lovely. I must listen to more of your music now.

I love it! Beautifully played! My fiddle teacher is trying to teach me this. Thank God she's patient! As a newer fiddle player, I wonder if I could take the guitar chords you're playing and translate that to a fiddle accompaniment?! Yay! I bought a penny whistle thinking that would help me. Argh! Playing by ear doesn't mean I can play anything😂

Fantastic! Beautiful playing. This whistle will be my next buy. I have a Killarney in high D and I love it. But I feel that a B flat has the tone that I am looking for.

@BevWhelanMusic Жыл бұрын
Hi Jose, it is a Setanta whistle. They have a lovely, bright tone, and a good bit of volume so they are great for sessions :-). I got it from McNeela's in Dublin.

I started on a $8 Clark that I randomly picked up as a toy. Now I have a pile of random music stuff. Some day I'm going to make a nice display area for all my whistles and flutes i' have now acquired with my addiction lol

Quite beautiful Bev... MK's Low D has a lovely tone too.... I've played Overtons for nigh on 40 years now... and have the complete set from many visits as an enthusiastic youngster to Bernards front room in Rugby with my ever patient father... Over the years and with the ballad bands I have played in I only concentrated mostly on G, Ab and A and only in lock down have started to play the Lower D's and F's... inspired by Michael McGoldrick... I find the D Overton especially harder to play... it is 40 years old and I think Colin Goldie has made some improvements since... I've bought Mk's in D and F... and yes they are a joy to play... just need to train my hands to pipers "grip" as my lower hand lets me down sometimes.... have you any recommendations on hand holds and exercises? Your playing is lovely.. I especially like your Leaving Uist Lochaber Badger set and of course the complimentary guitar work that makes the arrangement work so well... Kind regards Ger

Thanks Gerard! A bit of a belated reply to your lovely comment, sorry! :-) Low whistles are great to play, MKs are by far my favourite. I used to have an Overton low D in the 1980s but couldn't play it at all as my hands are too small so I couldn't manage the grip. It's a bit better on the MK, and the Chieftain low D by Kerry Whistles has the smallest stretch I've encountered (the V4 anyway, I believe the later models had a slightly bigger stretch). My advice is use a mirror to analyse your finger placement, and often the issues of covering holes are not, as you would expect, the right (lower) hand but inadvertantly shifting position on the left hand. Not sure if that will help, but happy to advise further if you like!
