India is afflicted with crass and overwhelming linguistic disenfranchisement. You can't get a white collar job if you are not fluent in English. And yet, access to English is confined to those few whose parents were rich enough to send them to an English medium school. With respect, I will challenge Prof. Joffrelot to prove me wrong in my claim that a larger percentage of the French population knows English than that in India.
