I was born in Portsmouth and lived there until I was 42. It’s changed so much, I’ve got no desire to go back.

How to different to the Brighton of today, which is basically a sad woke dump 😢
@missj.d91878 күн бұрын
It looks like such a clean place back then. Sadly the last time I went to Brighton the rubbish was piled high and we were tripping over homeless people lying all over the pavements. It was a sad Sight to see. The beautiful prom was shut off due to total disrepair and the poor arches.

Got to be grockles from the smoke. Proper Brightoniand wouldn't act like that

Where did all those retro red weighing scale machines go? I would love to have one now, six of us use to all stand on the scales at the same time then we put our penny in, then one by one we all stood of, we then deducted the last persons weight from the other to get each person's weight, so to weigh all six of us it only cost one penny instead of 6 pence. 😂 The hot summer of 76, I was down there then with my parents, I remember going into the wax works house near the pier towards the now Brighton centre. and the old penny arcade where we used flattened bottle tops for pennies. 😂 Shame the West Pier is not standing as that was the better pier in architecture. 😪

Ah! The good old days before the invention of climate change. Back in the seventies you could walk from South Parade Pier to Ryde Pier at low tide, twice a day. Now the bloomin' sea has risen too much.

Yes, it was. I remember going on board and being shown around on a tour by a Royal Naval sailor for free in 1981/1982 when I was a student at the former Portsmouth Polytechnic.

I live north of Baltimore near the PA line, but my son lives in the city so I go there from time to time. This may be an unpopular thing to hear since so many people want to believe its blighted and dead, but I believe that the city is turning around. I see places that used to be in rough shape, looking noticeably better. People seem to be taking pride in their neighborhood. Crime is lower than it's been in quite some time. And for a change, their mayor seems to be an honest person. I think Baltimore is on the verge of seeing better times.

I was 7 in 1976, we used to visit Brighton as we did and still do live in Sussex. I remember seeing a skateboard for the first time in Brighton and getting one for Christmas that year. I also remember going on the west pier before it was closed, so great to see that in the film looking much better than today

Yep, I am a folkestone, cheriton lad, born 1950, nice video, memories, we would walk just about everywhere There is nothing wrong with my home town that is not wrong with the whole UK As boys we would fish from that which today is the harbour arm,, memories Back then people would be able to deal with life's many problems in a way that they cannot today, Folkestone, a special place, thanks for the memories

My family shopped in JM Fields often when I was a kid in the 60s. I don't recall ever seeing it this busy; this must be Christmastime in the video. I suppose this is what Amazon would look like now if it was a brick and mortar store! 😆

Old home movies like this fascinate me because when they filmed this it was in the expectation that only a couple of people would ever see it and they could never of predicted that years later thousands of strangers would watch it!
